Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Wet cotton flapping over your nips for 50 miles = blood and pain. Fun right?

I nominate this for July's silliest thread. Can't wipe your face or glasses? Come to BF, where you can enrol for a PhD in how to walk and chew gum simultaneously.

I find this false. Maybe delays it but not stop it.

I was going to post a halfway sensible/useful reply, but unfortunately the ********ness of this thread became too great so I can't.

Use the back side of your gloves, that's what they are for..

Well, this thread has certainly turned into Teh Awesome!

Here are some answers to various posts in here.....

I wear a Giro Atmos Helmet. (funny how that was the exact solution to the one guy's problem)

My jerseys are cheapo $30 ones from the sporting goods store. Not the Tour De France kind with all the logos, but just the plain solid kind.

My glasses were like $10. Not cycling specific, but they do not have rims at the bottom (I got them because I figured the sweat would just drip off the bottom of the lenses, but that isn't exactly coming true). Sweat kind of pools in the lenses.

I take back what I said about sweat on my face. That doesn't bother me. It's my eyes. There's sweat in my freakin' eyes, and no matter how much I HTFU, that's still going to be a problem.

Wiping the glasses isn't something I'm doing while I'm actually pedaling. But when I stop for a break or whatever, I try to clean them off before I start again. This is when I'm trying to use the bottom corner of my jersey.

To the people who can't ride in cotton......HTFU People! Jeez!

Funny, most people prefer "superior" to "fine."

So OP goes out and buys dollar store glasses and the cheapest jersey he can find and he deems that an exceptable sample to judge all cycling apparel on?

The only time I've ever had any problems with irritation against my skin has been with synthetics.

I may try wool at some point, but I have dozens of cotton shirts laying around and they work fine.

Something like that. Or else maybe the OP just wanted to start a rather silly discussion about a minor issue just to make the end of his work-day go by faster yesterday. And it worked! The good news is that it's still working today! Thanks!

Maybe I'll start a thread about how cycling shorts also suck because the cheap MTB shorts I bought allow my stuff to fall out of the pockets. Once this thread stops being awesomely entertaining, I'll start that one.
