My turn to get hit by a car!
I got hit in a roundabout last night when going through and an approaching car failed to obey the yield sign. I glanced off the front quarter-panel, and flipped over the hood. Gave my helmet a good smacking on landing. Glad I had it! I'm a little sore today, and I can't put any pressure on my left hand, but otherwise I'm pretty much alright aside from minor road rash. The best part was right after, I was all hopped up on adrenaline and the driver got out and he's all, "OMG are you OK?" and I'm all, "get back in your car before I beat the **** out of you." Sweet awesome!

Sorry to hear that man. Glad that you weren't seriously injured. Hopefully we don't all take turns with getting hit by cars. Good thing you were wearing a helmet. Make sure you get a new one. One hit and they aren't good anymore.

legally speaking, how do you go about dealing with something like this if the driver is at fault and you get injuries and/or your bike gets EFFed up?
do you collect their insurance info? call the police? etc.?

Hope your stuff gets taken care of and glad you're okay.
There's a weird little intersection around here with a yield sign for one of the lanes. NO ONE obeys it and I have to dodge clueless drivers there occasionally.

Seems like the driver may have been genuinely sorry, but +1 street cred for being a badass. Since you hit your head, you need to buy a new helmet. Helmets are only good for one accident whether you think its ok or not. If there is an insurance case pending you should really delete this post. The lawyers for the insurance company often check internet forums for anything that may make you look bad, or help their case. Hope your bikes ok, and you feel better.

I know if I get hit by a car im calling the cops asap. Failure to yeild is the least of what I will be charging the ******* who threathens my life with his lack of judgement. If I miss work he will be covering that too. The full MSRP of my bike. (if It needs replacement) And any medical expenses.
I hate people who gouge the system and sue for millions over what are accidents. But, I would not hesitate for a second to use the system to get what I deserve due to a driver on a cell phone.

First thing you should do is call the police and get a police report. Try to take lots of pictures if you have a camera. Also if you have injuries, you really should go to the hospital unless they are extremely minor. If you do all this you should have a pretty good case and the insurance company will settle with you fast.

this is good to know about as well....
if they get away, and you are hurt, and your bike is messed up, does that mean they get away scott free from being financially responsible? does that mean you are basically EFFED?
keep your eye out for license plates, i guess.

SOL most of the time.
Although my friend had a motorist chase down the offending vehicle (guy blew stop sign (two-way, she had right-of-way), t-boned her without even hitting brakes, launched her over the car, looked back, saw her laid out and kept driving). She could have really gone after him and should have IMO, got two days pay, medical bills and her bike repaired. Guy is still driving with a slap on the wrist.

Last Saturday night I almost was hit as well ? Riding at night, an SUV hogged both lanes a couple of blocks away in the residential neighborhood area on a side street. Darn near hit me even on the farthest right hand side of the road. What was strange about it, driver was straddling the center line and then seemed to veer unintentionally towards me over a hundred feet or so. Almost like he was preoccupied and just not paying attention. I was prepared to go rural and use the green lane as there wasn't a gutter & curb on this side street.

Driver gets out, asks if I'm ok, looks back at his car with my bike mangled underneath and asks "was your bike like that before?"

I am going to get a new helmet, have the bike checked out and I'm going to the e-room for an x-ray now, it's still hurting pretty badly. Police were there, there was a report. I have to wait a few days to get the report before I can contact the guy's insurance.

My cousin has been in the hospital for 8 weeks as a result of a motorist turning in front of him while he was on a ride. The driver said she just didn't see him. It was broad daylight and a open road. Maybe wasn't looking...?? (Don't know if she was on a cell phone). There is a good chance he will never ride again. He broke 11 bones and totaled his knee. He was in a coma for 8 days. Still rehabing but feeling pretty good that he is alive. In one of the article in the local newspaper about the accident there is a section (online of course) where readers can comment. Some jackass mentioned that statistics show it is almost always the cyclist fault! Oh really. I guess my cousin must deserve his new plight in life. It must have somehow been his fault (she was cited by police).

glad u're okay. Hope all goes well for u and yer bike.
there was that CNN news thing about a guy who always have a camera on his bike video taping in case he ever got into an accident. He said everytime he gets into an accident he never had a witness so he started using a camera. My co-worker recently started using it and a few weeks into it he got doored by a police. I think I'm gonna get a camera soon too. Maybe u'll catch the license of the guy on hit and run? Iono..
