Yep, the only way for it to make sense is if everything else was already lightweight, including the rider. I'm doing the best to make sure I'm not the anchor! Still, it's a tough call for me. I've never had anything but a racing saddle, but I also haven't ever needed to put so many hours on a saddle on a daily basis. My friend bought one, so I'm waiting to see how he likes his, as he also comes from a racing saddle background.

I love my flyer, and I won't tour without it. So the 1st of Jan compelled me to make a resolution to get down to at least 170 pounds. I'm losing about a pound a week. But this isn't free, there is a lot of work involved! And less eating too...that's costly!

My Randonee weighs in a 35.04(park scale) with Tubus front and rear racks, full PB Cascadia Fenders, Ortlieb front handle bar mount as well as pedals and bottle cages. So pretty close to yours in weight.

Considering that my TCR weighs in the 15's... it's pretty damn heavy when riding unloaded.

Tim, have you actually weighed your LHT on some scales? My Surly set up is much like yours and it registers 3.3 lbs heavier...maybe my scales are wrong...that would be cool!

My self-built custom steel tour bike wo/ racks - 28lbs
Litespeed Sportive Ti as road - 18lbs
Litespeed Sportive as tour - 27lbs
Carbon road wo/racks or aero - 19lbs

I notice my wheels can add or drop the weight difference between the Carbon and Ti.

My touring bike, based around the Nashbar frame, is around 23lbs. That's without racks, water, fenders and luggage. Bottles and 68oz of water (2x24oz + 1x20oz) add around 5lbs. Handlebar bag, Carradice Nelson Longflap, and credit card touring gear (clothes, spares, etc) adds 22lbs for a total weight of around 50lbs.

I have no idea how much my LHT with front & rear racks, fenders, lights, bottles & cages, computer, gps, and tools weighs. I probably don't want to know.

It does weigh less than I do though.

If it irritated the post office, consider it some well, well deserved bad karma on their part.

When I weighed my 42cm LHT it had a full XT drive train and heavy duty RhinoLite 36h wheels on XT hubs. It was 30lbs.
I have changed the wheels to 32h Bontrager Mustangs so it might weigh a bit less now.

Hmmm, that seems like a lot. I have a Trek 520 as well, and I weighed it once before a trip two years ago. I can't remember now what the result was (I'll have to dig it up, I have it written down somewhere), but I'm pretty certain it was under 40. Of course, I do have the smallest available frame size . . .
