Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Looks like we got an inch or so here in Austin overnight. Wonder if I can use it as an excuse to work from home. Only in Texas does an inch of snow/ice server as an excuse to stay home.

Took this pic this morning of the pool across the street:

That's ice on top. The pools at the Third Rail Lofts and the Joule Hotel are also frozen. My wife is going to take a pic of the frozen water spout in the Joule's pool once the camera battery charges. I'm sure our pool is frozen, too, I just haven't bothered to go down to look.

So the club breakfast ride was canceled today. I wonder why?

Time to get the mountain bike out. It would be fun in this snow. I have to work though. Down side to living 2 miles from work.

I'm really glad I got my workout done yesterday. Hopefully this will be melted by tomorrow morning when I ride to San Antonio!

Feel your pain. Surprised no one suggested calling Al Gore and ask what the heck is going on here?

Go Steelers.

A bit of historical trivia: In December 1983, the White Rock Lake froze over from the north end down to the Hunt mansion.

Yeah, Plano Bicycle Association has cancelled all their Saturday morning rides. Here's some pics from around my neighborhood - you tell me if you think canceling the rides is a good idea.

RBM is just having spin classes. I guess the weatherman's prediction of a "light dusting" and "accumulations of less than an inch for North Dallas" were gross underestimates.
