During my 5AM ride about a month ago I was talking to Diane. She is the coach of a Team iN Training (TNT), a group of athletes that do charity runs. I was telling her that I don't run because I got neuropathy in my feet from chemo and they hurt all the time. She asked why I had chemo so I told her about my bout with breast cancer in 02. She said "That's very inspiring and motovational. Would you come speak to my Team iN Training?" I said to her "You think thats inspiring? Let me tell you about my grandson Tyler!" I did, and she was moved to tears.
This past Saturday my wife and I and my VERY pregnant daughter, her hubby, and Tyler met the TNT after their Saturday 13 mi training run. There were about 12 athletes and after Diane made a short intro I told them about my story. I ended by saying I got my inspiration from the strength of my grandson.
My son in law then told them Tyler's story, the same story he told a year ago when Tyler was the honored guest for the local cancer Walk-A-Thon. There was not a dry eye in the house. Well, we were out side, so I guess that's not quite accurate. But in any event, they were moved and inspired by the "Iron Man" story. At the end Tyler gave them all "Iron Man Clan" silicone awareness bracelets to wear when they run.
Going through difficult times is no fun, but it's nice to know that some good can come of it.

I would love to hear you speak and meet Tyler too. Your posts have given me a reminder of how much children mean to us. Your battle with cancer and now Tyler's winning the war so far make me shiver. We have so much to be thankful for. Thanks Bob!

Tyler had a routine clinic visit yesterday and he continues to do gr8! We didn't bother to go back to school so we went to the beach. Had a gr8 time.
Now we are in the labor n delivery waiting room. Mamas water broke last night and now the contractions are 1 - 3 min apart. Tyler will soon b a big brother! This was an unexpectd blessing as my daughter has a condition the makes it very difficult to get pregnant.

"IRON MAN" Tyler turns 8 on Sunday! Now a big brother, Tyler continues to do well. He has had a bit of a problem with reading, but he is improving each week. He has great innate "engineering" sense, as demonstrated by a PS3 game called "Elefunk." It's an interesting "electronic Erector Set" type challenge where you have to build bridges and other structures to support one or more elephants. I'm amazed how he just "knows" which parts will work and where.
Here's a pic with his new brother.

UPDATE! We just got the 27 mo remission tests back and TYLER IS ALL CLEAR! They will be taking his port out, a device just under the skin in his chest that is connected to an artery that is used for direct injection of chemo into the blood stream, and for getting blood samples with minimum pain. Now he will be a normal kid again, but he will continue to have remission tests every 3 months for a while. He will just have to have blood drawn in his arm like the rest of us.
To bring this back "OT" (ON topic) here is a link to a ride we did last night
https://www.bikeforums.net/showthread...ew-quot-Stoker!
He has finally grown into the rear seat on the tandem, and by lowering the seat all the way he is able to pedal. He was so excited it was hard to keep the speed down so Nana could keep up. An I was not pedaling. No wonder he had sore legs today!

Great News, now you just have to get him his own bike so he doesn't have to share and his little brother can then take his place on the tandem.

He has 2 but he's still on training wheels. He's always been very cautious. We'll be working on that this year. But it' 5 mi to his school from my house so the tandem works well. Now he'll be "earning his keep."
