How was the commute today? 2011 Edition.

Yikes, I was just going to say my commute was really windy today, but we had 20mph winds, not 60. At one point, going up a hill I was almost blown to a complete stop.

yah we were getting 50-60 mph gusts up here too. fridaymorning wasnt too bad ~40F and drizzly, then the ride home was when the wind started up. One gust almost took me down, 25mph tail wind + wild side force gust = crazy speed wobbles.

Guess I'm lucky to be in Orange County! 50-55 degrees or so.
Fairly comfortable commute, and somehow also managed to subtract 7 minutes off of my average commute time despite doing 45 mile yesterday. All good things!

I would really like to get some miniature blinkers for my road bike so I dont have to take a hand of the bar to signal.

It was cool and clear here in Kansas tonight with temps in the upper 20's. Hopefully the snow is done and I can get some regularity to my commuting again.

Cold....around 0°C this morning....can't beat a cycling balaclava & Merino Wool cycling top...apart from the warmth, it doesn't smell - even after a few rides.

Crisp dry ride in with a wind coming down from the Nroth. The big storm really never affected my homeward commute last night.
HARDY awesome pic.

Had a friend ride in with me today. He's a little slower but it's great having someone to chat with. 39F slight tailwind

My back tire had a bit of a thump on the rim when braking last night which had me a bit concerned (since the wheelset has only 500 miles on it). When I got home, put my bike on the stand and spun the wheel to reveal that the problem was a broken spoke. That was the last thing I wanted to tackle but as I looked at it more I realized that the high flange hub combined with the single speed freewheel meant that I could likely change the spoke with the wheel still on the bike - and that I did. Didn't even have to deflate the tire. That was the fastest and easiest spoke repair ever. Yet another reason to be happy about my single speed.
In any case, I was very happy to commute this morning with a smooth riding bike. Even oiled the chain to get the squeaks out. Great ride. Nice and dry with the -8C temps (yesterday was raining).

I should be back to regular cycle commuting this week doing 3 out of 5 days. Hopefully next week I can do 4 out of 5 days. Didn't ride yesterday but I did today.
Excellent ride in at 26F and dawn/partly cloudy with winds from the NNW @ 9mph. This is my first time riding at 6ish and I couldn't believe the little traffic on the roads. Unfortunately the traffic picked up quite a bit at around 7 and got pretty heavy. First time using my DiNotte 140 tail light. It seemed like I got a positive reaction from it. I could see vehicles change lanes much further back then they did when I was using the other tail light.

Last night's ride home was wet. Drizzle when I left but raining much harder by the time I got home. Was really enjoying it until about a mile from home when the rain really began to pick up.
This morning the temperature was around freezing with a northerly wind (read headwind) of almost twenty mph. It was really kicking my butt, so it was a slow commute in. The sun's back out brillaintly though and it's supposed to warm up into the 50s today so it should be a nice ride home. Plus, I'll be dropping off rent on the way home which means an extra couple miles riding!

Finally... first ride this year. Off the bike for about ten weeks, and they turn those 13 miles into something a lot further (some type of quantum effect I guess). The frozen snow on the bike path didn't help. My new snudded snow tires made short work of the flat ice sections.

A little slippery on the way in this morning. Not sure why New Westminster doesn't salt their overpasses or MUPs. It was about 1C/34F with some light snow. Really nasty rutted frozen snow in the Brunette river trail coulda knocked my fillings out... Hikers can make a real mess of a trail when it's snow covered and warm.

I drove in yesterday to run some errands.
Outsmarted myself this morning. As I was getting my riding togs on, a reminder popped up on my phone, telling me not to forget my ID/Access badge again, like I did yesterday. I stopped dressing and went searching. I looked in the usual spots. I looked in the places my wife will stash things I leave out in the open. I go out and look in my truck, even though I rode in on Friday. No joy.
By now, I've again missed the window wherein I can leave on the bike and still catch my train, so I stop looking and change to my office clothes for the drive in. I still have to find my ID, so I head out to the garage - and find the ID inside my bike helmet, where I can't *possibly* forget it.

29F and a bit icy in spots (riding a road bike with 23c). Supposed to get to a balmy 36F for my commute home. That being said, the 40kt winds forecast will probably negate the warmer temps.
