"Power" link for a 2011 Ultegra chain
I'm looking to buy a power link to have for on the road emergencies. The SRAM 10 speed link says that it's just for SRAM chains and the Wipperman is for connex chains which the mechanic in the store said wouldn't be good. (He wasn't sure if SRAM was accurate in saying that their chain was proprietary.) I would prefer not to buy shimano pins and carry a chain tool.
Has anyone used the SRAM 10 speed or Wipperman connex links successfully on a 2011Ultegra chain?
Thank you.

I've used SRAM, KMC, and Wippy with Shimano Ultegra chains. My favorite by far is the Wipperman and I use nothing else now. They're a total ripoff, but they're the easiest to use and last the longest. I go through at least 4 chains on a single Wippy link.
The only thing to know with the Wipperman is there is a right way and a wrong way to install it. If you install it upside down, you could have issues on your smallest cog.

I asked this same question on another forum about 2 weeks ago (I also have a 6700 chain). I was told Wipperman & KMC would both work but not the SRAM. I have not tried it yet to verify.

I've been using the Wipperman Connex quick link with my Ultegra 6700 drivetrain & chain for over 4000mi.
No problems, and it works flawlessly on my rig.

+1 on the Wipperman. No problems on three bikes with a few thousand miles between them. (Two of the bikes aren't mine- I just built them up.)

Yep, 10s SRAM PowerLock is perfectly fine with Shimano chains, and is many-times reusable. I've done plenty of 200k+ rides on exactly that configuration.

Wippermann Connex worked great on my 6700 chain. The chain itself fell apart, but the Connex link is still going strong. I now have it on a 5600 chain.

KMC missing link saved me when my 6700 chain snapped on a ride a few weeks ago. Had one in my seat bag and I was back on the road within 10 minutes.
Never seen a wipperman one for sale at any store I go to, so KMC was the winner for me (also KMC is sold directly by amazon.com ).

Another vote for Wipperman. Store mechanics can't really recommend them for Shimano chains because they're not officially supported and they have to think of liability concerns. But they work perfectly (well, with no more issues than any other system and a lot more convenience).

I've used the KMC on Ultegra 6700 chains, no problem.
I just buy KMC chains now and they come with a link, very happy with them and the price is good. I can't tell the difference in noise or shifting performance vs. the Ultegra chain.

Yeah I have a sram link in my bag. My local shop mechanic said they work on 6700 chains just fine even though Shimano advises against it. That being said, I haven't needed it yet.

From KMC's site:
Is KMC Missing Link compatible with Shimano chain, Sram chain, or Campy chain?
*
Yes, KMC constructs Missing Link I, II, 9, and 10 for 7.3mm, 7.1mm, 6.6mm, and 5.9mm respectively; all Missing Links are compatible with Sram, Shimano, and Campy equivalent chains.
