looks like someone tried to drill my kryptonite new york fahgettaboudit keyhole

hey guys, i came to my bike today and it seems like someone might have tried to break my lock. i didn't notice my lock damage till later, but i did notice that when i came to my bike, it was sorta moved around on the rack. i didnt think anything of it at first. it wasn't until i rode to dinner and was about to lock my bike that i saw that the plastic keyhole cover was broken off. ive read that these things fall off easily but i just thought it was weird that my bike was moved around and my lock had damage. i took a closer look at the lock when i got home and i noticed that there were some metal shavings around the keyhole opening. also at the bottom of the inside, it looked like there was a drill attempt. i really can't tell if this is the case though because it doesn't look like there was any damage to the interior sides of the keyhole. i attached a few photos of what i thought looked like the drill damage. was a little tough to photograph, but check out the small circle dot at the bottom of the hole in the first two photos. it looks as if the drill hit the bottom of the hole and left a circular groove. also took photos of the shavings on the side, which could also be shavings from just using the key everyday? it did seem like when i put the key inside, it's now looser than it used to be, but that could also just be in my head.

is it common for this lock to break by drilling in the keyhole? if anyone has this lock, could you please take a look into the keyhole and see if you also have that circle at the bottom? just want to check if it's normal or if it really did get a drill to it. thank you!! i'm going to bring my bike into my office tomorrow morning.. i don't care if security tries to stop me.

A drill most likely would have done more damage. It looks like someone at least had at it with a screwdriver or something.

Is your bike parked in a place where someone would have time to go at the lock with a drill and nobody would see them and say anything? Sounds like you need a better place to park.

I have that lock as well and it looks just like yours. It's normal because I haven't used this lock as much.

You have a bike that even a bicycle thief doesn't want?

I'm sure vw meant he either brings his bike inside or lives in an area where bike theft isn't really a problem.

So he either lives in Japan or in another world because everyone steals bikes on planet earth. Except the Japanese.

Ever read those posts about people saying cyclists leave cervelos outside of coffee shops with no locks? Damn.

I don't think it's been tampered with at all. I have the regular Kryptonite New York lock, and looks similar.

Michael Scott: If there is one thing I hate more than the mafia it is a liar. I wish the mafia would go out and kill all the liars. Bury them in my yard. And I wouldn't tell the cops a thing. Not that I would be lying per se. But I would just get really quiet, all of a sudden.

Replace liar with thiefs and you will understand what I think about them

Go grab a drill and stick it in a new york lock. the top disc (the one that is visible) will spin about and not be harmed. that's one of the reasons disc cylinder locks are so nice is because they're protected by that floating plate at the keyhole, it keeps a drill bit from being able to grab hold.
