Crankset FC-C101 compatibility need
Hi,
FC-C101., FC-C102 are simple 3 speed (for 8 speed) 48T, 38T, 28T set.
I like to change for a new one but like to know what are the compatibiles with this.
Thanks,
losi

First question is why are you changing them? If they are worn out, I'd suggest replacing the BB while you are at it. That allows you to use pretty much any 8 speed triple out there. Decide how much you want to spend and look for something in that price range.
If you are changing for another reason, it would help to know what that reason is so we can better guide you.

Hi CACycling,
Thanks for the advise
Why change: It made about more than 6000km. Before a year ago changed (finally) the chain and the casette. I not find crankset that time. Sometimes felt that the new chain jumped one tooth.
The bike is a cheaper but a good bike. For that want keep it in good condition. The problem was that not find crankset with 48, 38 and 28 toots in the Shimano parts. I did what I not so like; wen to the shop and told him that I need one as I have. He brought me a Shimano imitation with the same price as a Shimano. I will put together this Thursday and will see.
I looking for a new or even used but better bike anyway.
Thanks again.

I asked the reason for the change because it wasn't clear if you were replacing for maintenance or some other reason. Not sure where you are at but NiagaraCycle.com has several Shimano triple square-taper cranksets with 48/38/28 chainrings starting under $30 plus a number of other brands that would be compatible. Glad you found something that will work.

Hi CACycling,
I like and thanks your answer and advise to change the BB. It give a really good choice and will sure that will not broke.
I am in Switzerland and I paied about 40 USD for the crankset. The bike frame is an Alum and quite strong. The wheels are Rigida
but the other parts are Acera type and for that not upgrade it so much. I use it for shorter and also 60-90 km trip.
All the best,
Losi

Hi fietsbob and CACycling,
Yes it is a cheap and not possible to change the toothwheels ony, But today tried to mount and after the right side was on saw a problem that I had to take off. this shows how to have to care about imitation.
The carankset went more inside about 8 mm. The axis distance of the inner end bigger in the new one so when it went on the right place the tooths are more inside. The part was not like originally and I not saw before mount it.
The original he told do not exist anymore what I not understand.
Went back the shop. he offered a lot of things like to set the speed changer what is not a good solution because more reason. It is not the right place for the chain and also for the chain not so much place there.
To change the BB-TS30-K for a longer axis is a good solution but that I do not want to do with such a cheap part built like this crankset built together the bike. (He not took back the part)
I will search for an original or put back the old one and use it for very short distance only.
Thanks again fro all.

The spindle length (length of the axle that goes through the bottom bracket) is determined by the crankset so it isn't unusual that installing a new crankset would require changing the bottom bracket. I agree with you that an 8mm change in chain line (moving the crankset in or out that far) is more than I'd want to accept. If the chain rings are worn out, it is probably time for a new bottom bracket anyway.
