Got a good deal on a bike today Jeunet Proifessional (PIcture heavy)

With alot of help and some needed prodding and shaming as well as offer to help with info on working with tubulars from DEVINFAN;
I pulled the trigger on this early 70 Juenet. The original owner is 54 now and he got it when he was 16. So it's at least 1973 or older.

It was Huret Jubilee derailers, mafac 2000 centre pulls, pivo handlebars and stem, T/A professional cranks and chainrings. Brooks professional saddle, Regina freewheel and normandy luxe competition hubs, Mavic Record du Monde De L’heure gold anodised tubular rims, vittoria sewup tires.
I think Renolds 501 tubing not sure if butted or not the decals are damaged.
Some parts many not be original; brooks saddle, campy frame pump and one skewer is campy and the other is atom. The freewheel is made in italy regina something.

Pictures as recieved, I hope you like them.

I don't think Reynolds 501 would have been around then. You're most likely looking at a 531 variant. That particular decal is probably 60's-mid 70's.

I love this bike. I wouldn't change anything about it, it's got so much character. The only thing other than basic stuff like cables etc. that I'd do is flip that seat clamp around, give it some nice french cloth tape or new Benotto, gently attend to the rust and then wax and polish. It's going to be a stunning bike. Also like I said I'm positive it's a Jeunet Professional which would make it full Reynolds 531 db, not 501. Congrats again.

Is Juenet still around? I think the newest one I ever saw was from the very early 80's.....or I could be wrong. It would be nice i=f they were around longer, at least into the mid 80's to early 90's so I can look for one that fits the time period of bikes I would like to own.
Very interesting dot pantographing on the Pivo stem. At least the person who did it didn't go deeper with the drill.......Cause aren't Pivos the famous French C&V "death stems"??

Drillium? Is that what they call those divits? Was that to lose weight or a style thing?

I found some matching Renolds decals on ebay for another Jeunet that were intact and they match. So this bike is indeed renolds 531 double butted tubes, stays and fork. FYI the frame on ebay is very similar but blue and with simplex drop outs where mine has huret drop outs.

Looks horribly unsafe, you should let me arrange to have it shipped here for proper disposal

Honestly, that might be the coolest bike I've seen in a LONG time. I'd love to own it and it's six inches to short for me.

Death shmmeath. I wouldn't change that stem for a million dollars. If it was going to break it would've done so already.

My whole family had Jeunet bicycles when I was a kid. We got them from a hippy bike shop called Earth Cycles. it would have been 1973-74ish time frame.

Just about every Jeunet I've come across, either online or in person (including my own), has been a 1972-1974. I'm going to suggest the OP's Jeunet is the model 650. All three top models (630, 640, 650) were grouped in the "pro" line and had Reynolds 531 DB framesets. Below the 630 were gaspipe frames. The 640 had Campy dropouts and Campy everything. The 650 had Huret dropouts and Simplex Super LJ mechs, basically all high-end French. The 630 had Simplex dropouts and the infamous plastic Simplex mechs. The OP's doesn't match the 650 perfectly, but who knows if the mechs changed from year to year. The Huret dropouts pretty much peg it for a 650.

Classic Rendezvous has some info on Jeunets: https://www.classicrendezvous.com/Fra...les/Jeunet.htm

No, that's the AVA with the open back, these Pivos aren't deadly, just very, very fuggly. And those primary colored measels aren't helping anything.
Very one-of-a-kind machine, unique, weird...French...keep it original! Or maybe just flip the seat clamp around.

I don't have to ask, the polka dots are frickin' awesome. He probably thought the bike was looking a little sedate and wanted to cheer it up, which I totally get. It makes the bike one of a kind. Then again, I'm the one with candy-cane bar tape on my Cinelli, so maybe you shouldn't listen to me.
