How often do you wash cyling (shirts, bids, shorts) gear?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

How often do you wash cycling (shirts, bibs, shorts) gear? Do you really wash them with soap/detergent like other clothes or just rinse them as it has only sweat after 1-2 hours of use?

The same as you do any other athletic clothing. Have you ever done anything athletic before?

If I wear them they get washed in the washing machine with detergent and then hung to dry.

I use compression shorts under wears so that gets washed after every use. I don't wash running shorts after every use.

I was not sure about cycling shorts.

How old are you, 13? Ask your mom what to do when your clothes are dirty. Sheesh, so many dumbass threads recently!

Every time I wear them, with regular detergent, regardless of how long the ride was. Also wash my gloves regularly (they aren't leather). Sweat not only starts to smell bad, but also is acidic, and is hard on your clothes if left for a long time.

My cycling clothes stay on until I am in the shower where they are then handwashed, and left to dry. Never smell bad, last a long time.

After any ride, I throw both shorts/jersey into the "light cycle" laundry bin. Hang them up to dry after they've been washed. I'd rather have a pair of shorts that wear out a little faster than get some nasty stuff growing in the treasure island region.

Worn once and washed in the gentle cycle, liquid detergent, and hung to dry overnight. Thankfully, I have enough to last a week before the batch needs to be done. Socks get worn once and go in with the rest of the whites. Gloves get hand washed about every other use, basically just rinsed out in cold water and left to dry on the kitchen counter.

How often do I wash them ? Never, my wife does it, and she has a pretty humiliating process in which she sprays the crap out of them (No pun intended) with some sort of Tide odor iliminator before she puts in the washer. Really?? Do I smell that bad ?

I hand wash them every time I ride. I've been hand washing them lately ebay shorts don't hold up well so I've got to be gentle.

Correction

Guys: I did not expect such a rosy response to my bit naive question.

As I said earlier I am used to compression UW under shorts. So question was about shorts. and second question was washing or just rinsing it so NO smell.

Shorts: wear 'em once, then wash. Jerseys: couple hours worth of sweating, and they go in the wash. Socks: ever 2 or 3 wearings. Gloves: wash 'em when they get crusty.

You don't really need to shower more than once a season, and tooth brushes are only good for separating fools from their money. Also, toilet paper is highly overrated.

Always wash after use.

Hang dry. DO NOT machine dry socks/bibs.

Your stuff will last long, smell clean, and feel good.
