Colin Cape value?
I was curious as to the value of my Colin Cape bicycle. This frame came from his Chelmsford shop (serial number CC 3000). The lugwork and the paintwork on it seem very well done, and in relatively good shape. The hubs are Campagnolo Record, with Mavic tubular rims, and the wheels are extremely light. The derailleurs are also Campagnolo, Nuovo Record, with matching Campagnolo downtube shifters. The crankset is Sugino Mighty Compe (a near-perfect copy of the then-current Campagnolo); Stronglight headset; Weinmann 500 brakes (nothing fancy, but they are light!), TTT stem, Fiamme bars. The pedals are Look clipless; it had KKTs, but I wanted to try the Looks.
So I guess my first question is, what is it worth? and my second question is, what is the frame worth by itself? If this were a historic bike, I'd hesitate to part it out, but it doesn't have a unified grupo. Which raises the third question: Would it be worth that much more if I swapped on a Campy Record crankset, pedals and brakes?

The only recent Colin Cape value data I've seen is one on sale on eBay with components no better than mine, and the paint in much worse shape. Also a touring frame from the '60s (frame only) with nice chroming but rough paint sold for the US equivalent of about $86 (now that was a bargain). The eBay guy was asking $900, but then again, his bike didn't sell.
Does the Colin Cape name add any value, or is it a rose by any other name?
