Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Nope. The 105 shifters are not compatible with that. I wouldn't bother upgrading that bike dude, no offense, but it isn't worth any additional money. Switching to 105 would cost at least as much as you spent on the bike, maybe even twice what you spent on the bike.

Use it 6 months as is while you save for something decent(~$1000).

My first road bike was very similar and I rode it a lot.

Have fun!

Sounds like it. Check out some local bike shops, this time of year is great for deals. If you want a quality road bike, look at spending $800-$1,200 for a new one. Otherwise you can find some good used deals, but you need to know what you're doing in terms of size and components to gauge whether or not it is a good deal.

Good luck.

A lot of people here have had good luck with bikes direct. You'll need to assemble it and set it up yourself, and you'll probably want to forget about warranty service if there is something wrong with the frame down the road.

There are lots of threads regarding bikes direct on the forum, do a search and weigh the options. I get my bikes from the local shops. Just bought a Specialized Tarmac that I love.
