Upgrade FD Ultegra to Dura-Ace?
I seem to have some trouble shifting from the big ring down to the small ring. Sometimes I have to push shifter 20+ times before it finally shifts. I know ..... Just HTFU and keep it in the big ring
. I took to LBS and it shifted perfectly every time while on the stand. I don't know if it's an issue with the brifter (DA) or the FD (ultegra). Was thinking of buying a DA 7800 FD to see if that would fix the problem, plus then I'd have a full DA drive train. Thoughts?

I doubt it's the FD's fault. Cable kinked, cable not seated properly, fd adjustment ....

I have noticed that things rarely work the same on the stand vs under actual load, so that would explain it working fine when the mechanic looks at it on a stand. He SHOULD be doing a test ride as well, however. That could help him (or her) identify the problem I'd think.

Probably not the front derailler. Sounds like an adjustment if it shifts well on the stand. You should replace FD anyway just to have the full benefit of Dura Ace shifting.

It isn't the FD. Ultegra is awesome. I've done lots of races with an Ultegra FD with no issues at all. it could be a slight cable tension or limit screw adjustment assuming that the cables and their housings are in good working order. It could be that the FD is bent or no longer in its proper place if the bike has been dropped hard.

What would be the benefit of a dura-ace FD over an ultegra? I don't know of any other than better match with my dura-ace RD.
