Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Selle SMP which one?

Hi guys.

I'm wondering which Selle SMP saddle to buy.
I've measured the width of my sit bones (center to center) and it's about 10cm.

I don't know which to choose based on my sit-bone width. I ride 16-25 hours each week and I'm used to a pretty hard saddle. But I've heard a soft saddle isn't an issue with the SMP's as the padding is only on the sitbones.

I've also considered the Adamo, but I'm going to be using it mostly for road riding (not TT's) and it makes sense that the cutout on the SMP is all the way from the front to back.

I need a 150 wide saddle. There are lots that are 130-140. I would think the 130 would fit you. Anyone know if there is a SMP that's 150 wide?

I have a Dynamic with steel rails. I just bought a Glider with carbon rails for a good price. The Glider is 3 mm narrower. I hated the Glider and went back to the Dynamic.

I tried changing the carbon rails to the Dynamic, they're glued in and it didn't seem like they'd come out easily.

SMPs are expensive! It's best to demo one before making a purchase.

Still have the glider? Been looking for one that ain't a small fortune as it seems the Lite 209 is just a little bit too wide for me now that my fit has changed

Any chance you're interested in letting your 209 go? I loved the Glider when I rode it, but it was just a smidgeon too narrow.

I have an Avant on my steel bike, and a Lite 209 (narrower) on my race bike. I, too, would like to try a Glider, which is the next step narrower. I bought both of mine at wekeepyoucycling.com, and they have a pretty good sizing guide. They also frequently have deals on saddles with cosmetic flaws. Finding a way to demo one isn't easy. I've seen demo's advertised, but the programs were either ended or the saddles weren't available.

I've tried several SMP saddles and couldn't find out which one was good, because none of them fit well to me. The company I would go to is www.theprosstuff.com

I resorted to buying an Specialized Romin 143

I don't know how helpful it is, but Steve Hogg has an article up about SMP's...
https://www.stevehoggbikefitting.com/...ll-about-smps/

I demo'd a Dynamic recently and was pleasantly surprise by the comfort, well, lack of dis-comfort...
Then I looked at my bibs, and both pair that I had worn on the SMP have scuffing. Has anyone else had issues with the stitching wearing spots on their bibs?

This link might be helpful.

I'm demoing my 3rd SMP saddle at this time, and I think it's the winner for me. Tried the 209, Glider, and now the Dynamic, which seems the best fit for me. Doing a couple of longer rides this weekend to confirm, but 90% sure this is the route I will take (dynamic).

FWIW, sitbones measured 115mm.

I highly recommend you take these saddles on test rides. I tried the Composit but it felt too wide towards the nose. I went with the Evolution. Both saddles are the same width at their widest, they have different tapering to the nose.

I'm 5'8, 148# with a ~30.5" waist (to give an idea of hip/sit bone width) and the Evolution fits me like a glove. I couldn't be happier with it. It's on the narrower side at 129mm.
