New Surly LHT has arrived
After two and a half weeks of waiting for my new Surly Long Haul Trucker to arrive at my LBS, I finally have my first road bike. It is everything I could have hoped for. After two get to know you rides I am sure I made the right choice.
Here's hoping that this will enable me to take longer rides more easily than on my Trek 7100.

Sweet...
Which one did you get, 26" or 700C?
Let us know how it rolls, right now the LHT is the #1 choice for my N+1. I just can't figure out what kind of gearing I would put on it. Road triple vs mountain triple? 10 speed or 9 speed? 26" or 700C? Argh, so many variables@!

I got the 700c 58cm Complete bike. It has a mountain triple 48-36-26 and a 9 speed 11-34 cassette.
You can see the full spec at https://surlybikes.com/bikes/long_haul_trucker_complete/.
On my first two LHT rides the gearing seems quite good for me. Plenty of top end speed on the downhills and a great range of gears for the limited climbing I have tried on it so far. I haven't had to drop down to the 26t ring yet, but it will be nice to have on a couple rides I do.
I also really like how well the 37mm wide tires roll on this bike. They are as fast or faster than the 700C x 32mm slicks I currently run on my hybrid and provide a better ride. I averaged over 16mph on my 16 mile ride this morning and I wasn't really pushing myself.
The jury is still out on the stock saddle. I am considering a Brooks B17 Imperial, but that will probably have to wait for a while.

Looks good!
I was a B17 doubter, too. Then I just laid down the $ and did it. Whoa! What a great saddle. Everything everyone says about it being fantastic is true. Maybe, put it on your Christmas list.
Enjoy the bike!

Nice bike.
An investment. Not an expense.
I like the way Surly and the LBS leave the steerer tube long.
It gives you more options in adjusting fit.

That is really nice. You fork come uncut with the bike. I am going to leave it that way for a while until I am sure I have the right stem height. I may even leave it that way permanently as I only have two spacers above the stem.

I haven't put it on a scale yet, but when I pick it up it feels lighter than my Trek 7100.
According to the Surly web site
------------------------------
Frame Weight 58cm = 2340g (5.15 lbs) My frame is the 58cm size.
Fork - uncut = 1020g (2.25 lbs)
I will update this post if I get it on the scale.

Ok until I read this I had made the decision not to buy a new bike, but I have been thinking about a LHT for a while, I wish there was a dealer locally where I could rent one for a test ride ( not just around the parking lot)
