Anyone hear of a Raleigh Denim?
I found this little bike and was curious about it. It is a 1980 Raleigh Denim, looks like an R20 but doesn't fold. It has 18 inch tires and is SA 3-speed. The bike is ion excellent original condition and 100% complete. I'll get some pics up here soon

Not a Twenty but an Eighteen - You can tell because it's not got those spars linking the bottom bracket to the main tube. It's a bit like a Moulton mini - i.e. an almost faithful 7/8th scale version of the 'bigger' bike - in this case of a Twenty. Made for kids or diminutive adults - it's most likely to have 406 wheels (considering UK Twentys have 451s). Came under a number of guises in girl, boy and unisex flavours ('Denim' for girls, 'Commando' for boys and 'Eighteen' as unisex).
I think they're super-cute and would love to soup one up but that I had the space. I presume the same bespoke Raleigh threading issues would apply though

Image of 'Boy' commando - complete with banana seat and 'heat dissipating' chain-guard.

Bumping old thread - just found denim for sale local, couple of questions:
- It look like I can fit 20 inch wheels in there, am I correct?
- does anyone know if headset is the same as on R20, ie plastic thinny at the top instead of bearings?
- bottom bracket - same unique Raleigh as R20 or normal BSA threading?

I'm offended by your orgy 'smiley' .
(Now you would have to question whether that was a 'joking' wink or a flirtatious one)

Lets see, I need to think: First of all I am offended that you critizize me (by being ofended becouse of something I posted) .
Next I am WERY offended that you may be flirting with me in public...
BUT: I think I am even MORE offended if you are NOT flirting with me..
Hmm, this is complicated. I think I need a nap..

I had a Denim, also had a Commando.
They have 18" wheels. There was a R18 too.
I built the Denim into a sort of Chopper. I got a push lawnmower handle cut down and welded on, to act as top tubes. That kind of melted the nylon top headset bush. So I cut down the headstock a little and fitted 20" forks from a non Raleigh shopper style bike. I had 20" 406 alloy rims in there. With a Shimano 3 speed hub. Think it was a bit of a squeeze to get the rear wheel in. Had alloy BMX calipers, big chunky MTB levers, Shimano twist grip. Mark 2 Chopper bars and seat. I had Lyotard 460 alloy cage pedals. I had straightened the left pedal spindle. Big mistake as it snapped off when cycling up a hill. I lurched forward and shut the twist grip, skinned the back of my hand on the brake lever
