Other than that we dont watch much tv. We do like the food shows (surprise), and a little news (depressing). No "reality" crap. Those shows make me want to burn stuff.

It took three months for my girlfriend to realize that my super nice big TV (a gift--not the kind of thing I'd ever buy) was actually a TV and not just a means of displaying what's on my laptop.

I like TV . I watch prodigious amounts. I suspect if you don't require tv recovery time you probably aren't going hard enough.

you are just honest enough to say it in public

but then again, honesty is a lot like sincerity: a little bit of it is dangerous, and a great deal of it is absolutely fatal

Went out for ZCI's and 2 x 15' at crit efforts. ZCI's were on a bad course, too many turns. I ran out of road before the 5' mark and had to try holding the brakes while mashing through the turn, so probably had about 10 seconds of "rest" per interval. Oh well.

2 x 15' was on a new 5 mile loop I found using the Austin Bike Map. I love finding new routes.

Does anyone else feel like training with power is unfair? I've been feeling that a lot lately since my gains during this build phase have been so rapid and "on plan". Where's the romance? Merckx didn't need a powermeter.

At the same time, I'm telling everyone I know to get a powermeter.

sold my pm. no regrets. But Im destined to be a 4 or masters fodder for life, with or without a pm. So who cares. Theres just no reason for me to care about numbers.

Now I just "ride lots", and do my weekly hammerfest ride. And when Im tired I rest. So far its been quite enjoyable.

I always joke with my wife..."You mean they made a new show that stars Doctors, Lawyers and/or Cops?! What will they think of next!". Most TV sucks. I do like to watch a little bit of Boomerang in the morning with my son. They play old cartoons; original Scooby Do, Pink Panther, etc. Other than that it's mostly movies and bike DVD's for me. OK, so maybe we'll squeeze in some WII or XBOX too.

When I moved in with my girlfriend (now wife) it took a couple years for me to get back to what everyone else considers normal. I still find a lot of what's on tv unwatchable- dramas or "shows" either have too much yelling and screaming or violence, or they're dumb.

Great saying.
I'm the type that jokes around a lot, I do crack people up a bunch but about real issues I am open, honest and transparent. Being honest and sincere has caused me indigestion in the past so I am more reserved now than I used to be.

Agreed, it's full of awesome lunacy.

Just like this place.

In other news. I've been thrown under a number of buses at work in the past 24 hours and boxed up a bunch of my stuff and took it home. I've also applied for eight new jobs since 10AM this morning.

No, I'm still currently employed and not at risk of getting fired, but I have no intention of staying where I am a day longer than necessary. I'm tired of being the public whipping boy.

I'm so furious right now that it's taking a lot to just type straight.

Never had one, sometimes I wish I did but I have done alright without ever having used one. Some races I don't have a computer on my bike nor do I care to. I am also hit and miss on an HRM.

THough I think data can be helpful I grow fearful of different training regimens owing to the fact that I think if you are staying 'on plan' that you could limit yourself by truly learning about 'you' and being able to listen to 'you' not your SRM

Gotta jet, I have a bunch of errands to run and need to decide if I'm really going to try racing tomorrow or just go for a 6 hour clear the head ride.

Personally I use an HRM but only during solo rides to pace myself during threshold and tempo rides. I don't use it in group rides or races, or easy days.
No cyclo computer on my bike either for the past 2 years.

Today is my last day at my current job - I have a new job starting on Monday.

I am now being told that I am not going to be paid for the 9 unused vacation days I have, even though the company handbook clearly states I am to be paid for any unused days up to 1.5 times the annual limit. Why do I feel like this is not going to end well for me?

I use my PT for my intervals and that is about it. I find it very useful for making me work harder. For example, I was doing 400 watt, one-minute intervals the other day. Going just by feel 350 watts hurts as much as 400.

On group rides and races, I put a piece of tape over the computer screen so I can't see the numbers. Heck, for nearly all races I use my race wheels, which don't have a PT.

The first time I ever actually "used" power in a race was this past weekend when I was bridging a gap. I figured 350 watts for my 30 second pull would be as much as I could sustain for the 7 or 8 pulls it would take to get there. That was pretty useful.

edit: that was also the first time I've bridged a gap in a race. It was hard.
