Actually, I think it looks accentuated with the design of Affixed's (Thompson?) stem, but having a negative angle stem works in conjunction with the angle of the steerer to produce a horizontal orientation/reach of the stem body. Here is the similar effect with the ITM stem on my Litespeed:
If the steerer can handle a mile of spacers, and that's what you want, I say go for it. I know some people don't cut steerer tubes for various reasons, like back issues, and they need to change their position from time to time, so I wasn't sure if that was a reason for the set up.
Aesthetics are personal anyway, but shouldn't trump safety or proper fit (crazy talk, I know, I'll ostracize myself to the BF dunce corner now ).

It's actually leaning up on the paper (like a wall). What you don't see is the transition of the wall to the floor

In each of the photos at the air strip, something was wedged under the lower pedal. In both, the shadows were drawn back in.
