Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Question About Lemond Bikes:

Can't seem to find a definitive answer for this question(I've been looking online, and get nothing), what was the largest sized frame they made for the LB's?

On a side note: I keep seeing these things all around SoCal, today, i saw 2 alone...... From everything I've heard about them from owners here, they seem to be pretty good bikes.

I think one of the things you need to know about Lemond bikes is they were measured different. So a Lemond 55cm is a 58 cm on another bike.

I have had mine since 07 and 26,000 miles later I still love this bike.

I have a 2004 LeMond Nevada City in a 59 cm. It was a good first bike and it got me addicted to riding.

True. My LeMond is a 55 and fits like my 58 Litespeed. Good bikes.

Wow, weird sizing.

So, does this mean it could be considered a 62/63 cm?

No. It means it can be considered a LeMond 59. Frame sizes are largely arbitrary and the only way to compare them across brands is to look at a geometry chart. There's no master conversion table.

But above, the gentleman said that they sizing for the lemond bikes was different, and then showed how his bike, listed @ one size, was actually bigger.

Here's a link to an old archived Lemond geometry page (2001):

https://web.archive.org/web/200103090.../geometry.html

Here is a link to the Gunnar Roadie's geometry for comparison:

https://gunnarbikes.com/site/bikes/roadie/

The first thing you would notice when sitting on the bike with the seat set properly is the top tube length and Lemonds are longer there for a given size. But as halfspeed said, all frames fit a little differently and you really need to ride it. Especially if you are on the edge of their largest size.

My memory on this is that Lemonds were measured from the center of the BB to the top of the seat tube, other makes measure from the bottom of the BB to the top of the seat tube. Not that my memory is all that great!

Some companies measure from the center of the bb to the center of the TT, but I haven't heard of the "bottom of BB" method.

Thanks, but that still doesnt answer my initial question if they made them upto a size 63/64cm frame? Again, can't find that info anywhere.....
