Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Selle SMP Saddle

I know no one saddle fits everyone but I did purchase a Selle SMP and rode 31 and 34 miles over the weekend. What a tremendous upgrade for the male anatomy.
Still have to ensure it has longevity but I expect it to be atleast equal to others. But anyone who has felt anticipation getting off or getting on the bike should look seriously at this.

SMP is the only saddle that I have found so far that works for me and it is the fifth saddle I have owned.

I have a SMP test saddle and always get made fun of but it's a pretty darn comfy saddle (only the EVO is better).

The kickup in the rear looks very similar to a Romin Evo. I wonder if there's anyone out there that has ridden both?

the evo is borrowing heavily from the smp ideas.

I actually happen to have both on my bikes... an SMP Pro and Romin Evo.

Cut out on the SMP is wider so the area where the sit bones sit are thicker. I personally hate it right now but it's more comfortable than 90% of the other saddles I've had. The Romin EVO agrees with me more.

ah, awesome thanks for the feedback. Personally, the kickup of the romin evo greatly helped my lower back pain. Before, I couldn't even ride 10 miles without pain, now I can do 50-60 with minor issues. I'm wondering if the SMP will be even better for me with its higher rear?

there are many different models of the Selle SMP saddles. why are you guys referring to a particular model by the brand name?

I have two SMP saddles on both of my road bikes. I'm really trying to love them, but it just isn't quite right. They have to be adjusted perfectly. However, as you say, it is more comfortable than just about all other saddles out there.

This is where it is obvious that SMP does not have a marketing department. Yes, they must have close to 25 different models available. It took me a couple of days, but I think I mapped them out. There are various thicknesses of padding and different widths. But, the naming scheme has no relation to padding or width. I bet if they came up with a better naming scheme that they'd sell a lot more. I have the "Lite 209" model, and am not totally sure if that is the right one for me. Trouble is that the shops that carry SMP don't have the complete line, so one cannot try them out to see which is best. Still, I'll stick with SMP ... or eventually go back to my, beat-up Brooks B-17.

I ride one on my MTB, love the locked in feeling..like bucket seats. On my road bikes I prefer a saddle that allows me to slide for and aft more easily, but the SMP is a close second.

because I am a n00b. It seems the model I quickly googled and am referring to is the SMP strike.

I've only ever tried the SMP Evolution that I'm currently using. It GREATLY reduced the nerve pressure I was getting on other saddles. I've been quite happy with it. It took some breaking in (breaking me in, that is) but once I adjusted it right and got used to it, I've been very happy. I would like to try some of the other models, but as is said above, it's hard to get access to them without buying one...and that's a pricey demo program.

I have the SMP TRK on my hybrid and the SMP Hybrid on my road bike, dont be fooled by the name "hybrid" its not for a hybrid bike. These are great saddles, bit hard to get set up but nice to ride on ! I paid around 90.00 for the hybrid, its a red one and my Giant road bike is blk and red so it looks good too !

Love the 209, didn't love the glider. Hated the avant and the extra. One day I'll try the Dynamic and see how that goes.

The width, side-to-side rolloff rate, and degree of padding varies greatly from one SMP model to another, so if one model doesn't feel right another might. This sheet is a couple of years old, so there are even more models now.

This should clarify the differences between the models: https://www.stevehoggbikefitting.com/...ll-about-smps/

I wish they made a narrower version of the Lite 209

Picked up a Lite 209 in Feb, almost have it right. I'll have to write a review on this shortly. Had a Glider several years ago and disliked it. Dumped it within a month.
