I've checked... Nashbar so far is the best when the helmets are on sale. I usually buy a couple and keep them around when needed...

Nashbar often has very good deals but I just ordered one on Amazon for a better price than the sale price at Nashbar. On a lot of stuff I decide what make/model/size/color I want, plug it into google shopping, and see what comes up. Caution though. The prices google shows are sometimes dated, so click through to the various sites to see the true current price, shipping, etc.

Nashbar and Performance have the best prices for helmets and shoes.

The best helmet isn't necessarily the one with the best price, but if you don't know what make, model, and size you want then you probably shouldn't be buying it online.

Even when I want exactly what I have/had I prefer to buy helmets and shoes locally.

I would suggest trying a helmet on before buying it online. when I chose mine I discovered some fit my head better than others

Go to your LBS when it comes to clothing type items. Check out what size you need then head online.

LBS really like it when you walk in, try on shoes, helmets and jerseys, don't buy anything and walk back out.

In the past few months I've discovered that the LBS often has a better prices than online. Not always, but often enough to check.

You also have to beware that online "deals" are often for previous year models. If the ad doesn't state the year, you never know what you are getting. I saw an '08 model helmet! Not that helmets or certification code have changed since 08.
