Great article in the New York Times about how the British Cycling Federation methodically built one of the best (track) cycling programs in the world.

Elitist
I've read the book mentioned in the article, "Heroes, Villains & Velodromes". It's a good read. The article was pretty much a summary of that which is covered in the book.

I loved that documentary, passion and romance on and off the track. Too bad we don't know how it ends yet - I guess that answer will come soon...

True, but it looks like the BBC made youtube take this video down. Bummer.
Rights agreements mean that BBC iPlayer television programmes are only available to users to download or stream in the UK...
I hate it when they do that.

All nonsense, of course. Listen to the experts on these forums. It's all down to drugs and not superb use of generous National Lottery funding, rigorous testing and training, using the latest findings of sports science, employing the best coaches, constant assessment of methods and individuals and a superb management team and a superb facility in the shape of the National Velodrome in Manchester

That, and figuring out that if you want a lot of medals for your country, Track cycling is a good discipline to dominate in. $40Mil is a nice chunk of change to devote to a sport like Olympic track cycling.
