jmX - I'm ready to make you whole if you'd like to upgrade that old clunker you're riding for this sweet riding, gel seated delight. The $400 asking price seems fair and your bike is super-used but I'll take it in trade.

Being a long time Craigslist shopper, I've learned that the terms "like new" and "road bike" don't mean what they do in English. Like new means "I'd Like something New so I'm getting rid of this piece of crap." Road bike means I see that Road Bikes sell for a buncha money, so this must be a Road Bike.
At least he copped to it when he was caught. $400.00 is a bit high, but one can only admire his optimism.

Nope. If he paid $999.00 a year ago, he's a fool. Obsolete FS bikes don't have the value sellers think they do. New, the bike went for about $1,300 MSRP. I'll bet you could have bought the Trek for close to $999 back in '95.
Earlier this year, Craigslist was full of ads quoting inflated MSRPs. One guy was trying to sell a Porsche mountain bike for $1,200 by claiming an original price of $4000. Folks wised up.
Welcome to the jungle.
