Cervelo S5 or R5?
If you had to choose between the Cervelo S5 Team Ultegra Di2 or the R5 VWD Red, which would you choose?

+1 on the R5 but really the bikes are totally different so it depends on your needs. I would personally prefer the R5.

have any of you tried an S5??
hands down one of the best (if not the best) bikes i've owned.
unless you're a mountain goat, S5 is the bike to choose.

R5 for me. I went over this dilemma myself recently. I have a Cervelo SLC-SL but wanted something newer. I don't like the looks of the taller head tube on the S5 and am upset for Cervelo's decision to change the geometry to make it more comfortable. Their response of using -17 degree stems is poor. Its an aero bike supposed to concentrate on speed - if riders don't like the feel they can use a + stem (even flipped). Instead they change the geometry where it looks hideous in a 58 or larger size and say use a stem only two companies make

I had a R3SL and just got a S5 VWD. The S5 rides harder but is a much faster bike. At 17.8 pounds with pedals and wheels it is no the lightest but lighter than my old R3SL.

R5 weighs 820g, S5 weighs 990g, S2 weighs ~1100g. that's 0.61lb difference between the R5 and the S2. that's less than half of a 20oz. water bottle, or 0.339% of the total weight of a 165lb rider with a 15lb bike. the aero savings on the S2/S5 is probably more significant even on climbs. and I don't care much for the look of the S5. I would get the S2 and use the cash on wheels and other things.

Went for a group ride today and the aero advantage was huge. The funny thing was on way the back with tail winds I walk away from everyone. All I know is that this bike is much faster than a R3SL and the R5 is basically the same bike as a R3SL.

One of the few people that are honest and realistic with weights. I'm so skeptical about weights here - either people lie or weigh their bikes without pedals, bar tape, cages, etc.
