After 6 months the mysterious 'tic' sound is revealed
For 6 months I had racked my brains trying to find the cause of a very annoying tic sound. I've looked EVERYWHERE. I took apart everything and put them back together. I've changed pedals, BB, brakes and what not. Still there. I gave up finally, but I knew it was coming from the BB somewhere.
Yesterday, I had to replace the new rack with the old original one because my father's bicycle needed one.
And Voila! No tic sound! Man, I lost so much time searching for the damn source of noise around the area where I could easily locate the stupid tick was coming from, and after all this time I just discovered by accident the actual source!
Crazy, crazy, I still can't believe it. So, add the rack to the long list of noise makers...

Glad you found it. For future reference the 1st question you should ask yourself if any problem suddenly crops up is "What's different?" In other words, what changed between when it was fine and now. You said the "new" rack was the cause of the problem. If you installed it just before having a problem, you could have saved yourself 6 months of grief if only you asked "what's new?".
Often, friends have asked for my help with similar problems, and after going through the basic drill they'll finally say "Oh, by the way, I just had the .... fixed, but that couldn't have anything to do with this, could it?" It's cases like that that help me work on my self restraint.

...and you piped in just to give him a "what's different" lesson?

My Brooks saddle clicks every once in a while. Just a bit of profide on the metal part, and it goes away for a long time.

In any case, I'm sure that if the OP felt I was rubbing salt in his wound, he could have spoken up for himself without your help.

His post and experience spoke for itself...
...and yet you felt a "need" to hop in and explain it to everyone. You couldn't leave it alone?
Are you implying that posters around you are slow, non-observing, stupid, unable to comprehend written English in the literal - much less the abstract?

FBinNY, I could hear the sound coming from the pedals or BB so the possibility that the new rack would produce any kind of noise was out of the question.
I wouldn't mind a squeeking or a click, but that tick sound was driving me crazy!

Perhaps all it was was a worn out spring that allowed the clasp bar to rattle a teeny bit while riding.
Usually though, it's more than a "tic". More like a "tic" "tic" "tic" "t-t-t-t-t-tic" "tic"...

This is beginning to look like stalking. I guess I'll be a target as well, as I often explain troubleshooting or mechanical concepts as well when I feel that both the OP and others can benefit from it. Rabbit, I find it ironic that you should object to such a thing when you often do the same thing when it comes to wheels.

I get a tick or creak coming from the bolt attachments under my saddle. I tighten them until I'm afraid I'll strip the threads. That quiets it for a while. Specialized Toupe Expert 143.

Oh please don't remind me of the saddle! The damn thing keeps sliding forward even after some brutal tightening.

I correct things...dish and ERD are a couple examples...folks confuse two types of dish - and state ERD as something static.
Regurgitating something someone else has already stated clearly - and doing so in a manner that it's YOU teaching everyone the lesson already stated is something else...
Ego perhaps?
Kinda like the need to state something in a meeting word for word that someone else has already stated - because you think YOU should be the one who says it?
Once again, I don't know everything, I for the most part stick to wheel related threads...I don't feel a need to have word in every thread in Bicycle Mechanics.
But when I think that someone else does - even when the obvious has already been stated - I'm going to say something.

mrrabbit, you come off quite rude. FBinNY was simply stating that the OP should've asked "what's new/different?" to solve it when he/she first noticed it. He didn't say it in a condescending manner, he was giving him/her advice for if another sound creeps up.
Also, springs don't simply wear out, afaik.

A congrats was good enough...and one's own experience. Not a teaching lesson...that was already done.
