Hit & Run - Driver shouts: "I hope you didn't dent my car"
12-year-old schoolboy seriously injured in hit and run in Broadstone
By Arron Hendy, 8:00am Thursday 20th September 2012
A 12-YEAR-OLD schoolboy was seriously injured after a hit-and-run crash.
After the collision a witness heard the driver of the 4x4 involved turn to the seriously injured lad and say “I hope you haven’t dented my car” before leaving him on the ground.
The boy was riding at the junction of Station Approach and Moor Road in Broadstone after school when the crash happened and he was taken to hospital.
Drinkers and staff were at the nearby pub The Goods Yard when the boy was passing on his bike and collided with the silver Toyota Hilux.
Barmaid Anita Davis said: “A witness said the driver said to the boy ‘I hope you haven’t dented my car’ and drove off.
“We do get a lot of traffic along here and lots of kids go past at school time.”
Fellow barmaid Lucy Funnell said locals did not know the driver involved.
“It’s just a shame this driver’s driven off,” she said.
“It’s unbelievable.”
Police said the boy suffered serious injuries to his arm but they are not believed to be life threatening.
The crash happened close to Broadstone Leisure Centre.
The junction where the crash happened is also at the start of Wentworth Road, which leads to Broadstone Golf Club.
Children pass by from local schools including Broadstone Middle School, Corfe Hills and Poole Grammar .
Parents in Broadstone said drivers needed to be careful as there were so many children walking and riding home in the morning and after school.
Mum Beth Michael’s daughter Amber goes to Broadstone Middle School, and said she feels drivers are “pretty careful”.
She said: “I’m always very careful as I know the area and I’ve got small children but perhaps not everyone is as aware of that.”
A Dorset Police spokesman said they are appealing for the driver to come forward to talk to them about the crash at 5.30pm on Tuesday.
He said: “The cyclist sustained serious injuries to his arm and was treated in hospital.
“His injuries are not life threatening and the vehicle did not stop at the scene.
“Police are appealing for the Toyota driver to contact them to help with the investigation.”
Any witnesses or anyone with information can call 101 for PC Sean Ford at Poole police station.

A DRIVER who sparked a media appeal after colliding with a young schoolboy in Poole earlier this week has handed himself into police.
Medics treated the shocked 12-year-old cyclist for “serious” injuries following the accident at the junction of Station Approach and Moor Road in Broadstone on Tuesday.
The Daily Echo featured the hunt for the driver on its front page today after Dorset Police asked for the media's help to track the motorist down.
At lunchtime officers confirmed the driver had handed himself in at his local police station.
A Dorset Police spokesman stressed: “The driver has not been arrested and is helping police with our enquiries.”
The police also thanked the media for help with the appeal.

Its a news article not a legal case. As far as future potential legal issues you do have a point. For a news story hearsay is standard operating practice if not multiple levels of it.

total logical fallacy
1. building a logical argument on hearsay
2. using a negatory to validate
3. dropping the colloquial idiom
all in one sentence

Glad to hear that the driver turned himself in. Many places in the USA that probably wouldn't have happened.
But man what is it with text-based media that they feel the need to start a new paragraph for EVERY SINGLE SENTENCE! Newspapers, internet news sites, I don't get it. That's not how we were taught in school.
