I hate when it gets warm enough for the snow to melt. -15C is perfect since the snow is packed hard, my drivetrain stays clean and I don't have to wear too much.

I hate long pants so the initial switch from wearing shorts to jeans is annoying but from that point on I actually get more excited the colder it gets.

I dislike the transition seasons, generally early fall or late spring. I need several layers for the morning commute, but then I have to pack them all in my bag for the ride home. I actually prefer the winter where at least I'm wearing the same layers both ways, or the summer, when I don't need the layers at all.

Thankfully neither of these happen often but sometimes a surprise gust of wind can be a little disconcerting... I've had it take my breath away momentarily and frozen my eyelids shut.

If I'm in a hurry and it's cold out, it's whatever I could throw on and I'm out the door.
I typically don't change clothes when I get to work and do what I can to lighten the load on the commute.

As for what I dislike the most about winter commuting, it's everyone else at work and other places that think they're experts on hypothermia and other cold-weather related illnesses.

You have a car, good for you, KICK ROCKS.

* The layers of clothes and the increased amount of laundry
* losing one glove somewhere during the day and having to purchase another pair just to survive
* cleaning and re cleaning and then cleaning the chain again day after day

for me the biggest problem is to find winter tires, my local shop doesn't have the same, that's why I have to tune up the custom tires, and that's what I hate the most, everything else is just fun, if something bothers you, like weather conditions, then simply go buy car, and don't complain, the winter cycling is cycling in winter conditions...

There are stores on the internet now. That's where my spikes come from.

As posted earlier in the thread, the thing I hate is how my eyes water like a sieve, causing my nose to run profusely. Happens from Fall to Spring for me.

The mud from cars passing by around freezing temps and drivers who don't care if you're there
The fog on goggles.
The lack of space to ride due to snow (the city don't care about winter cycling)
The switch between hot when inside a shop and cold outside
People who tell you all the time (oh you have some courage to ride at those temps)

But it's so much fun to ride during winter

Looking at car drivers trying to take out ice on their windshield or trying to free their car stuck in the snow etc..
I'm bad I know

Yup, getting dress, I get so hot. Then my toes get cold if I forget to wiggle them around off and on. I don't ride when its icey any more, cars sliding around worry me too much. Plus I've had enough comical (and painful) falls. And if I'm to lazy to put my contacts in, my glasses ice up.

The grit and road grime that somehow manages to make its way into my mouth as it splashes up, not matter how hard I try to avoid it!

What I like most is the cold,LMBO! Seriously...I'm being serious, anything below 28 degrees F or so,my left index finger locks in place (long story, surgery in 2001 and replacing everything in it with synthetics...it ain't been right since),plus anything below 35 degrees F or so agitates my spinal injuries,so my answer simply is the temperatures

What is the one thing you dislike most about winter cycling?

Snot.
Definitely snot.

I'm farmer blowing so often one would think it adds thrust.

Snot and fogged up glasses. That's another one that really irks me.

Onion layers of my clothing. Still, it's always way too hot at some point. I was riding between 13F and 100F, but I will take anything bellow 60 with a smile on my face. I just hate when it's hot .
Another issue is frozen drivetrain...

The main difference here in VA (as compared to further north) is that we usually get a minimal amount of snow every winter so I never bother with snow tires (not that I could even get them for my bike).

But it does get cold, and for me it is always hardest trying to figure out how much stuff to wear so I stay warm but not overheat. For me the feet are the hardest - yes I have the booties (and they are a bear to get on), but the feet always seem to get cold. I am almost tempted to switch out the pedals (switch from cleats to toe-clips) so I can wear warmer shoes if I want to.

There was one day when I rode my bike to work on a cooler day, and I miscalculated on the clothes - I was chilled at the office all day long, and that was after a long hot shower. That's the sort of thing I *never* want to happen again.
