They really could do a winter series there. Nice to watch your progress.
Ended my season on a good note at the NVSG in Vegas on Saturday. AZTall and I were able to escape from the field together and ended up cruising the strip in these:

Having Ex for a teammate is, well, extremely motivational. It makes you push harder than you knew you could. My lungs are still feeling the effects of just hanging onto his wheel for dear life.

2 upgrade races today (want my 3's before the start of next season). won the first one, pack finished the second
jumped on the slight uphill before the last corner, got a gap, opened up my sprint and held off the rest of the pack bunch sprint by a couple bike lengths. finish was also slightly uphill with a headwind so it was pretty painful
teammate did the 2/3 race and got 2nd from a 3 man break and might have enough points for his 1's now which is cool

Well, it's not road, but what the hell. I did a cyclocross race today, my second ever and first in two years. And I'll be damned if I didn't win the thing! 40 seconds on the second place rider. I actually didn't believe it at first when they told me I was in the lead at the end of the third lap. My first ever win in a sanctioned bike race. It feels pretty good.

Thanks guys! It's weird, I did 85 miles of a Gran Fondo yesterday, and I was utterly wrecked. Didn't decide to race until this morning, and thought there was no way I would do well. It went ok, though.
Also, the prize for winning was a pair of Racing Jackets, and they seem pretty sweet.

Wish I was at that Fondo, there was a great turnout and my boy (training partner) finished third against a bunch of younger guns (you know who they were)

"Comeback" weekend...first races since Jan 28 crash that resulted in multiple bone breaks, concussion, and BPPV.
Sat, Brooksville Crit, M40+, technical course with a long gradual cobbled bone jarring hill on the back stretch: Three laps into race I hit a bump and water bottle went flying and nose of saddle went down about 30 degrees...oh no, this is not going to go well. In shock the entire race, forgot what this felt like, struggled up the hill a few times, successfully bridged to a couple of splits/breaks, 3 to go I tried to solo bridge to a couple of guys, got to bottom of hill and blew up, race came by me, ended up setting up teammate for a good attack...limped to the finish in 12th out of 17 starters.
Sun, Brooksville RR, M30+/40+, 3 laps of a 17 mile loop that contained some very short power hills typical of central florida (e.g., 8-11% for 150-200m): Teammate got into a promising 15-rider break within 20 minutes of start, so blocked a bit for 2 laps along with a couple of other teams. Otherwise hung out in the back; struggled up one particular climb but otherwise OK. In good position in the peloton with 5K to go when cramped horribly up the last climb...soft pedaled into finish behind the group...don't know placing.
Our state championships are next weekend, so this was a tune-up for next week. As such, I realize this weekend was very hard and I only have eight weeks of training in the legs (I rode very little from Jan to August), but I can't help to be a bit disappointed at the poor showing, mainly comparing myself to how fit I was at this point last year...oh well, nothing a good winter's worth of training can't cure!!!!!

Brooksville Crit P12 - Rode at the from at the beginning and after prob 6 minutes rolled a 3 man break - Florida Velo, Boom Devo, and me. We stayed away and almost lapped the field but chose not to. With 300m to go on the second to the last lap, I attacked right at the top of the cobbled hill after letting the FL Velo guy pull the whole hill. Got a gap and the Boom kid followed me. I tried everything to get him to pull through including coasting but nothing would make him pull through. The FL Velo guy was coming back and I had no choice but to pull up the hill. Of course lost the sprint and got 2nd but sill super excited about a great result.
Sunday RR - 4 laps of a 17 mile loop. I pushed the pace from the gun and but shortly was back in the field. I was sitting in the field right at the bottom of Ice Cream Hill when I bumped wheels with the guy in front of me and went down. Wasn't on the ground for more than 2 seconds though. I sprinted up the hill to the front of the field where I immediately jumped on a 3 man chase group (going after a 8 man break). We made it up to the break and started working hard. We had 12 guys and eventually got up to a 5 minute gap. On the final lap, the attacks started coming. I tried to go with one of the first ones but was hurting quite a bit so decided to site in until the ones that really mattered happened. On one of the final steep hills about 5 miles from the finish is where the big split happened and we got it down to 7. Then on the final steep hill about 2.5 miles from the finish I followed an attack and then countered. I thought we'd gotten it down to 4 but no one wanted to work and the group came back together to 7. I sat in until the sprint where I was able to sprint for 4th.
Great weekend and looking forward to the State Championship RR next weekend!
