I finally received my CXX and the rear dropout was bent. I emailed BD so let's see how they handle the issue.

Bummer.
They'll swap it out for you, but it still sucks to have to wait.

I wonder if it would affect the integrity of the frame. If it's still functional, and wont break off later, I'd be willing to keep it. All thought the derailleur would not be exactly aligned.

Hey Odie, how did everything work out?

I bought a chromoly SS 29er from bikesdirect which was great until it was stolen last year, since then I've been commuting on a new 29er Monocog. I just ordered a Fantom CXX 54cm in yellow, hopefully everything is in order when it arrives, I can't wait to have a 'road' bike!

I had to return the bike. They have shipped a new one. It won't be here until Wednesday. Hope your transaction goes smoother than mine.

It sucks that you have to wait. But it sounds like they did step up and do the right thing (so far...).

That does suck, but at least they are taking care of it. I forgot about the holiday today, although I think I'll still receive mine later this week. I'm hoping for the best, although in the worst case I can pedal the monocog for a few more weeks. Let us know how the replacement works out.

It's just a meme I created to post whenever somebody buys a Motobecane and is disappointed for whatever reason... actually gets used quite a bit in some of the other forums.

The photo is from a stage in the Tour de France a few years ago where that guy tried to interrupt the award ceremony and then Bernard Hinault made a flying tackle (you can see him just there on the right).

Gotcha. I've been considering adding either a CXX or a Nashbar steel CX bike to the stable recently, and wanted to make sure I wasn't lookjng in the wrong direction.

Makes you wonder what will happen with this one? Do they just bend it back and resell it?

They have a site called Bike Island where they sell bikes with damaged paint or partial bikes - so presumably they'll sell the bike minus the frame.

Just got mine together, 58cm in white. Maybe I was lucky, but the bike really is nicely done. Ironic, if you painted it, put Surly stickers on it, you could double your money. Decent welds, great part spec save for the brakes, seatpost and saddle.

How does the bike fit? How tall are you?

I got the other CXX in and built up and everything is better than expected. The only thing that sux is the seat and brake shoes. I already replaced the seat with my Brooks and I will order new brake shoes. The ride was really smooth and I am very pleased. I know I cannot enter the realm of greatness of DiabloScott. I'm sure he's way better financially off than I am. I am working class, and I'm sure I am scum to most of the elite that snub their nose to me as I ride by on my BD bike, but I am very happy with my purchase and I am very pleased with the overall ride. For those that are not above my lowliness I will post pictures in the morning.

p.s. For the record BD handled my replacement with no issues. I would buy from them again.

Most people I've talked to are very happy with their BD bikes. A friend of mine at work has a carbon road bike from them and he's absolutely delighted with it. And when I did the Bloomin' Metric Century in Connecticut, I saw dozens of people riding BD bikes. Everybody I talked to seem to like theirs.

You either need to know how to tune a bike yourself or you need to pay a shop to do it. But I do think they are viable alternatives for people who don't want to pay quite a bit more.

Cheers,
Charles

No big miles yet as the weather has been crap, but I'm tall with short legs, the 58cm was the best fit, and I'm enjoying it

I don't snub anybody who rides anything... you can ride in cowboy boots and a kilt on a Walmart bike and I say "welcome friend". But BD has a well-documented quality control problem and some shady business practices and I do think that needs to be discussed to bring some balance to all the BD Love threads... I try to do it with fairness and a humor. I'm happy you like your bike.

I think that your prejudices are showing. Relative to mainstream bikes sold through bike shops, I've not found any truth to your assertions.

I took a 20 mile ride today and I must say I will never go back to aluminum. I'm not knocking it if someone else digs it, but I forgot how awesome reynolds steel is. My roads are terrible, the very reason I got a CX bike instead of a road bike, and this machine rides smooth. I also like the 170 cranks. I feel this is the best best crank arm length for me. More spinning and less mashing. I use to ride with 175 on my Rapid. The CXX is surprisingly very responsive too. This CXX is just as fast as my Rapid, if not faster, and also more forgiving. I cannot wait to get my clipless pedals on this machine to feel it's full potential. I am very, very happy with this machine. If anyone is on the fence I recommend this bike fully. Sure you might experience a problem with BD but they are quick to fix the wrong.
