Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Jeremiah Bishop's Alpine Loop Gran Fondo for me. The toughest ride I ever did. 104 miles and 11,500 feet of climbing with 2 climbs on gravel roads. Highly recommended. Here is a video from last years ride: https://www.cyclingdirt.org/speaker/3271-Jeremiah-Bishop/video/656734-Jeremiah-Bishops-Alpine-Loop-Gran-Fondo

I've been riding all winter. Not as much as during the summer, but still as often as the weather and schedule allows. Planning to do a number of the larger organized rides in the Seattle area. Chilly Hilly the end of this month, Flying Wheels Century, STP, possibly the RSVP. The shop group I ride with also does a couple of centuries and I'll probably ride those too. As a fairly new cyclist I enjoy the larger rides and the social aspect of them. As the years go by maybe I'll feel differently about them. I know a lot of people seem to avoid them at all costs. Also, I'm looking forward to my first ride in just shorts and a short sleeve jersey. Layering up and riding with fenders is getting old.

The Hilly Hundred in Bloomington, IN, because there are no hills in Central Indiana, and I really miss the climbs in the San Gabriel Mountains of SoCal....

Planning to ride Trail Ridge Road through RMNP in August. I would also like to climb Mt. Evans this year and maybe Pikes Peak if they allow it. That would cross off a few bucket list rides.

I have a few rides (all charity).... El Tour de Mesa, Cache County Gran Fondo and El Tour de Tucson. Otherwise I ride three times a week (barring weather, because I don't follow "The Rules" with rain)

Just found out that I'll be working in Belize during the Challange Gobie ride in a couple of weeks. The gentleman that started this ride and charity works for my client. https://www.challengegobiefoundation.com/home.htm I've been wanting to do this one for the last four years, but haven't been able to be in country during the event. ~125 miles from the Norther border with Mexico to central Belize this year. Just can't decide whether to bring the road bike or the cross bike. The road bike is lighter and more efficient, but the cross bike is a little more comfortable over that kind of distance. The roads in Belize aren't very good so a bike that can accomodate a little more tyre might be the better choice.

I'll ride the Elepaphant Rock ride at home in May because the starting line is less than a mile from my house. If my wife wants to do this one, I'll probably do the 25 mile fat tire course on my SS. If she doesn't want to participate I'll most likely make an attempt at the 60 mile road course on my SS. I've done the 60 and 100 mile courses each on the road bike a couple now.....time for a different challenge.

I may also sign up for the Copper Triangle. Just need to get a feel for how many miles I'm able to put together between now and then.

As the days get longer and warmer, I ride anywhere from 25-55 miles 3-5 days a week. I'm not too keen on big events unless they are close to home.

I signed up for the NY Five Boro Tour and the MS City-to-Shore ride. I decided to keep riding thru the winter this year (my second year on the bike). This week wasn't so great due to weather, but I managed 450 miles for January. Just to try something different, I bought a mountain bike from craigslist last night and will join some friends for an mtb ride tomorrow morning. I also want to do a 250 mile ride one day in the Spring.

I am planning doing A ride from either High Point NJ or Lake Hopatcong to Forked River, NJ. Hope to do it over 2 days...if my knees hold up. Planning to do a western route out through Bernardsville/Chester/Peapack (basically through horse country). Trying to avoid the eastern NJ roads as much as possible. Hoping to do this in late May with 2 of my friends. I haven't fully mapped it yet, but it looks to be about 130-150. I have found some good route maps that I will tweak a bit. Now I just have to get my fat butt off the couch.

I'm looking forward to tomorrow's ride. Since there is always a tomorrow, there is always a ride. However, I do have a charity ride coming up this month (100K), one next month (100K) and the MS 150 Citrus Tour (Lake Wales to Orlando) in April.

I am looking forward to cycling in Portland/Mt. Hood area, but I am most excited about going to Italy/France for two weeks for anniversary. I am getting to pick one or two stops in Italy soley on based on cycling. I haven't decided yet, but it will be great regardless.

Pikes Peak has been opened to bikes for 2013 after a successful trial last September.

Check out Bormio as a destination. The Stelvio, Mortirolo and Gavia will keep you busy for a few days. Spent a couple of days there myself last September. There is a good bike shop to hire a bike if you don't plan on taking yours with you...

https://climbinglama.blogspot.com.au/...lvio-18th.html
https://climbinglama.blogspot.com.au/...avia-19th.html

My trip for the year will be three weeks spread across CA, CO and AZ - Topic I started earlier asking about where to ride https://www.bikeforums.net/showthread...bs-to-seek-out

Current plan -

Starting in San Francisco I plan on riding Old La Honda, Tunitas Creek rd, Mt Hamilton, Sierra Rd, Mt Diablo and Mt Tamalpais. Then I'm driving to the Eastern Sierra - riding Death Valley loop, Mosquito Flat, White Mountain, Horseshoe Meadows, Whitney Portal and Onion Valley. CO looking at riding Grand Mesa both sides, Independence pass both sides, Copper Triangle loop, Trail Ridge Rd both sides, Mt Evans and Pikes Peak. Mt Graham and Mt Lemmon in AZ before finishing in LA with Mt Palomar and Mt Baldy...

Wife and I do mostly 100K on the tandem. I'm going to sneak in a few 1/2-bike organized rides, maybe a Century or two. The outlook is as follows:
Palm Springs
Solvang
Tierra Bella
Primavera (single)
Chico Velo Wildflower
I Care Classic
Sequoia (single)
Giro Bello
Windmill (maybe)
Marin
Tour de Fuzz
Lighthouse
Foxy's

Some of these to have to register for the day things open up - Lighthouse fills very fast, for example.

How are these rides? I get out to Indiana often, thought about spending a weekend in Indiana, so I could join in on one of these rides.

As for my list, I'm a benefit ride junkie. I'm doing quite a few this year, but the ones I definitely can't miss are the following:

French Creek Iron Tour
Civil War Century
Ride Ataxia Philly
