Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

My $2 plastic bottle cage works just as good as my $10 steel cage and just as good as my $50 carbon cage. I've never had a bottle come out.

If I'm going to cheap-out, it's going to be on something where I can save significant money....like $50 or $100..... not necessarily on things where the difference between cheap and the best is only $2 or $5.

I just paid $6 for a 12mm rubber expansion-bolt-hole plug for my 3TTT stem...... yeah, I could have just found something to stick in there that would work for under a buck....but for $5 more, for something "correct" for my pristine '97 Klein, why not?

Absolutely NOTHING. I sweat every detail on my bikes.....even down to the last titanium bolt. Biking is my passion.....and one of the three things in life I never scrimp on:

1) Your Family
2) Your Health
3) Your Hobbies

Another huge difference is more expensive ones generally have better adjustments for fit and comfort. If you ride for several hours, particularly in the heat, the better fit, comfort, and ventilation is noticeable. People may be better off buying a year old model at a bike store on sale. I got a sale Giro from Performance and used my points and paid $40 net for a former $200 helmet Nd the fit was perfect.

Degreaser is the only thing that comes to mind. While I do not purchase the latest and the greatest I do have my preferences. Dropping $200 every few years for a helmet is reasonable to me while spending $300 or more on bib shorts is not.

"Put a cork in it"
My LBS has a box of bar end plugs on the counter, free for the taking. Can't remember the last time I had two matching ones on the bikes.
