1992 Time Capsule (Ross, upselling, hybrid content)
Some bike salesman back in 1992 was on his "A" game the day this baby wheeled out of the showroom. It has more accessories bolted on than I think I've ever seen. I mean, we're talking refrigerators to Eskimos here. The bike is a hybrid and it is wearing a Rock Ring. We also have a Blackburn Cross Rack, Nashbar rack trunk, Flickstand, mini pump, 2 cages and bottles, aero bars with a little Cannondale pack, Cateye computer...
This bike is also right slam in the middle of the purple anodizing craze. It has the aforementioned Rock Ring, a fancy straddle hanger on the front brake, and alloy derailleur pulleys.
Found it parked on the edge of a country road, on the way out to pick up a few new laying hens.
"Dad's old bike, just in the way, what will you give me for it?"
"Umm, $20?"
"Okay."
Buried under all the doo-dads is a solid, probably Taiwan-built Ross "Signature" Centaur XC. It has a Shimano Exage 500 CX group, which is a new one on me. The STI push-push shifters work perfectly, which is a small miracle.
This might have to end up in the drop-bar conversion thread sometime in the future.
The most fun part was digging through the rack trunk to see what was in there. Spare tube, tire levers mainly. Also an awesome pair of drug store shades. Yeah, baby! Party like it's 1992.

Very cool, I really dig that funky straddle cable hanger! I'm sure the seller meant to say "mom's old bike."

Death fork? Naaaah!!
I love the upper-tier Exage groups. 500 CX is pretty much the same as Deore LX with different cosmetics. I'm running 500 CX cranksets on two very different Miyatas, a Triplecross with drops and a 710 faux rando bike.

Joel,
That bike is so not NH! I can't imagine a "Cranky Yankee" ever dressing up a bike like that!
Must have been an import from Mass!
I do need to see that beaut' in person. Now that June is almost upon me, I need to see what Tuesday-Wednesdays I can free-up.

After I kind of stripped it down to its original state it seemed a little forlorn, but I think I'll get used to it. There's some UV fading, but the paint job hides it pretty well.
Once again, I'm really surprised that the push-push shifters work. I really like this version of STI shifters, maybe because that's what was on my first mountain bike back in 1992.
