If the Schwinn Varsity were a car..... :)
It would be a Ford Granada! That's a car with great, road hugging weight!

I think the Varsity is much more reliable than a Ford.

Wrong decade, but this was the first thing I thought of.
The incomparable 90s Lumina continues to provide hundreds of thousands of miles of joyless, pragmatic transport all across the US.

Man, now I miss my old 1980 Ford Granada. It had lots of issues (lighting was screwed up so we ended up stealing something from the wipers if memory serves and having a wire direct from the battery leads to a light switch on the bench next to me then out to the wiper motor) and the thermostat never worked right, but I could lay down full out on either the front or back bench for a nice nap (a luxury in a cheap car for someone 6'3 like myself). All in all it was a 17 year old POS when I was in high school, but it was my POS.

My first thought was that the Varsity was the equivalent of the Model T.
Not that there's anything wrong with that!

Since the Varsity predates any of the cars you guys mention, I'm thinking '60s-early '70s big old full-size behemoth gas guzzlers...

I'm thinking the Varsity is more like a 1968 Plymouth Belvedere 2 door sedan with the 225 slant six engine. At a glance it looks like a Road Runner or GTX. But without the performance.
Sort of like how a Varsity looks like a Paramount at a glance.

I used to own a 67 Dart with a slant six. The most abused car I ever had, beat the daylights out of it.......still ran fine. You just can't kill them.

Still learning
Didn't most of us lust for a Varsity or other racer when we were under 12? Kind of reminds me of this vehicle, all show, not a lot of go, at least initially. But it changed the world!
