A thought for Lieuwe Westra

Having to abandon the Tour, with 39 kilometres to go, is a bitter pill to swallow.

Any word on why he had to pull out? I mean, even if he got lapped on the Champs, you'd think you'd struggle on after coming all that way.

I'd like to know the story too. Such a sad thing to hear. Was he the one who also had two flats at the back end of the peloton on the Champs?

Breathing problems, for the second day in a row. Antibiotics that hadn't kicked in yet. And a serious speed from the peloton suddenly.

He couldn't even talk before the race, let alone after he'd abandoned.

No, that was the French National Champion, Arthur Vichot. I'm sure that was disappointing too, but at least he had the ability to finish, even if it was off the back. I'm sure the fans cheered him all up and down the Champs Elysees. I can't imagine how frustrating that must have been for Westra.
