Repairing vintage 3 speed twist shifter
I am resurrecting an old AMF Hercules 3 speed for my wife to ride around town. It has a 1960s vintage 3 speed twist shifter to shift the SA AW 3 speed hub. I disassembled the shifter, and it looks as though it is missing a small bearing that is used to click the shifter into place. See below for an illustration of the twist shifter:

Hi,
The ball bearing can be sized from the spring and the detents.
It will be the same diameter as the spring, and
that hole, but bigger than the detents it locks into.
Just looking at it I'd say 3/16" - 5mm. Might be 5/32" - 4mm.

Many thanks! Now to find 5/16" bearings--maybe the local hardware store will have some.

5/16" is far too large, but you know that
. 4mm should do it.0.16" aka 5/32" aka 4.06mm is a common steel BB size.
Used in weapons (air and CO2) as well as bearings.
