Bib or Shorts?
#28
For me it is really not contest. Bibs are more comfortable, though shorts are still fine. I am pretty tall yet bibs are not a problem. I wonder what kind of proportions you need to have to not be able to fit bibs. I reckon you have to be some sort of slender giant.

Bibs for butt crack coverage, but tuck the annoying shoulder straps into the waistband to turn them into shorts..... Best of both that way.

Have you ever seen a professional cyclist wearing shorts instead of bibs? The vast majority of Pro's wear bibs. These guys spend a friggin lot of time on thier bikes, and have some insight on what works.
Admittedly, different people are going to fit clothes differently, but for the majority of people bibs are a better choice.

Must be nice to average 350-425 watts for 3-4 hours.

Bibs only.
Anything tied around you waist restricts the movement of your diaphragm. It's easier to breathe in bibs. Doesn't matter if you're going so slow you don't breathe hard.

Sorry but there is no evidence that wearing shorts has any effect on your diaphragm. If it did, then I couldn't wear shorts at all. I have had two surgeries to repair holes in my diaphragm and have partial paralysis in my diaphragm and I only wear shorts without any problems. I don't wear bibs because I find the shoulder straps too restricting.

i'd wager 90% plus of people who try bibs do not go back to shorts.

I have a set of Performance Bibs sitting in a drawer I won't wear. To me they feel like I am wearing clothes that is too small and too tight in the shoulders. I have since tried several other brands with the same results. I walk hunched backed because of the should straps pulling on my collar bones. I do not have any problems with shorts being too tight around my waist or sliding down. So, in my case, shorts are best.

I used to wear shorts back in the 90's, but was primarily a Mtb rider, and living in New England witha lot of mud, kept getting my ass crack full of mud. Bought my first bibs like 12 years ago and won't be going back. Bibs are more comfortable for me.

I used to say shorts were better for me - I'm thin and shorts fit me fine around the waist and there's no annoying straps. I tried bibs but they were inexpensive and I compared them to expensive shorts. I finally got good bibs and not love them. The big advantage is the padding stays in the same place over a long ride.

Asking this question should get the OP banned for a month.
