Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Fair price for 2010 Cannondale CAAD10 105

Hi Everyone,

I finally narrowed my bike choice down to the Cannondale CAAD10 105. A fellow on craigslist has offered me a CAAD10 105 from 2010 that his dad bought but he never got into road biking. What would be a fair price for the bike?

Thanks,
Justin D.

This one sold for $1200, which seems quite high to me:

Has to be a 2011 if it is a CAAD10. I agree, I wouldn't want to give much more than $700 for it, the 2014 CAAD line is almost here.

I talked her down to $775 for the bike. Turns out it is a 2011 CAAD10 4 with 105 pedals and a garmin gps included in the price. Is this a good deal. Her dad has the receipts and paperwork from original purchase and never registered the bike with CAAD so I might be able to get the warranty on it still. My budget is $1000. Is $775 a good price or do you think the 2013 CAAD10s will drop to about $1000 after the the 2014 line comes out.

You won't get a warranty.

The bike shop has a record of the sale.

Personally if that bike was in my size and I liked it, I would go for it. I do understand why you have warranty concerns though. If that bothers you then hold off. I will tell you this though, you won't get that bike new from a shop with $1,000. I doubt you will get any brand new CAAD10 for under a $1,000. Then it comes with pedals and a computer...no brainer to me.

$775 is an excellent price. I just built up my CAAD10 with full sram red, so I just bought the frame by itself. Bare CAAD10 frames run around $600, so $200 more for a complete bike is a great deal, regardless of the component spec.

That's a great price, especially with a Garmin thrown in. I paid $1800 for my 2011 CAAD 10-4 in April 2011, and I still had to buy pedals and a Garmin for another $350 or so.

If it's the right size, go for it.

Cannondale aluminum frames have a very good reputation. Warantee worries would be pretty low for me.

I've decided to get the bike but the bike has a small scratch on the frame from the bike carrier that the dad used to transport the bike. It is about half the size of a penny. Should I be concerned about that? The bike apparently only has 17 miles on. I go to pick up and pay for the bike tomorrow.

All you need is white nail polish and take your time to cover that. I still say go for it.

No you should not be concerned about that. That's a good deal - buy it if it fits.

It is size 54cm. I am 5"8.5. Not sure what my cycling inseam is but 2 local bike shops have put on 54cm bike for test riding. I also test rode a 2013 CAAD10 today that was the same size at the LBS and it fit great. I'm meeting the seller at a bike shop also and will have the bike shop make sure that I fit the bike before I hand over the cash.

You will be fine on a 54. If you can afford to pay for a bike fit that would help a lot. Once you get the correct stem, saddle height, and saddle position the bike will feel so much better. Make sure you subscribe to the "Cult of CAAD" thread, lots of info on CAAD's in there.

That's the same bike I have. If it still has the original tires, dump them asap and get something else. Those tires were terrible.

CAAD10 4 with 105 Clipless pedals and a Garmin GPS (guessing edge 200 or better?) is a solid deal, especially if it was rarely ridden and it is your size and the model you were looking for.

That stem isn't what came on it from the factory but for the price, that's a small expense I'd accept. Great looking bike at a great price.
