I had never seen this thread before as I usually post in the weight watchers thread
I crashed my bike on July 13 in the midst of the Map My Ride Tour de France Challenge. I had set a goal of 100 miles and was at 129. The crash resulted in some pretty bad road rash, bruised ribs and a fractured proximal humerus. Today was my first day on the bike since then and I did 5 miles of flat, leisurely riding.
The Tour de France challenge really motivated me to get out each day the Tour was riding. So I decided to do my own USA Pro Challenge challenge. I'll ride every day they do and do 10% of their distance - which means around 60 miles for the week. That ends the 24th - giving me another 7 days - so for my August goal - I'll say 100 miles.

Well got some of my mojo back. Ending the week at 306 miles for the month. Believe I can achieve my 500 mile goal. Wasn't so sure at start of week.

8 miles today,Schwinn Passage getting to a point where overhaul and frame touch-ups are necessary. Full on resto, new touring bikes are expensive, as you all well know.

With the rain, I only did 70 miles this week. Good new is I met my goal, and should beat my stretch goal. I am now shooting for a stretch, stretch goal of 400 miles.

Just another quick spin today because I won't get out tomorrow. On one section I had a guy behind me so just out of curiosity pushed to see how fast I could go and whether it would drop him. I ended up going around 25-26mph before I needed to turn off, and as far as I could tell that wasn't enough to drop him by any great margin. Still, a good ride all in and good to make the quads burn a bit.

Today was another "challenge day" for me, a personal longest ride of 30.3 miles.
I switched stems before the ride, going to a stem that is 1.75" lower than the previous stem. It improved my average speed, but my 60 year old body wasn't entirely in favor of the change.
Goal: 200 miles
MTD: 247
Over goal by 47 miles.

After my personal best of 36.5 miles yesterday, combined with almost 100% humidity, I could only grind out 25 miles today. MTD: 325 miles. 175 miles to go to reach goal of 500 miles.

So much for that day off. Decided to go pick up some toe-clip pedals this morning, primarily for the 'not having to think about where I'm putting my feet on the pedals' factor, though I've discovered that it is nice not to have to keep any downward pressure between 9 and 12 o'clock to be a rather nice benefit as well. Took a little bit to get used to getting my other foot in the toe clips, but I started to get the hang of it well before the end of the ride.
Decided to try intervals today, since I was a bit thin for time anyway. Did a 2x20 at the hardest pace I could sustain for the intervals given my not 100% recovered body from the last couple of days. It was actually a lot of fun and it felt great to finally be able to sustain 85+ rpm and 155+ bpm for extended periods without getting winded, certainly a big difference from a couple of months ago!

My last ride was two days ago, the end of my four day tour with 56 miles. I have 461 for the month and 3704 for the year. Taking a break. Family is on their way.

8/17: 42.8 Miles. Originally planned to just ride my usual weekend 25 mile loop but the weather was great and I decided I wanted to keep riding so I rode out to two towns over before turning around. My legs cramped up a tad on the last two miles but other than that it was a great and surprisingly peaceful ride (I expected to see a lot of bikes out there but only passed 3 total).
8/20: 10 Miles. I wanted to go for a ride but didn't have any errands to run so I just did a 10 mile loop. Haven't done this since early July, felt good and even hit a milestone - 22 MPH sustained for 3/4 mile. Not bad for a still out of shape rider on a hard-tail Hybrid.
MTD: 159.7 Miles (Goal: 300 Miles) - Slacking off on mileage this month, I'm not sure if I'm going to make it again this month with a couple days next week reserved for family outings, etc.
YTD: 869.3 Miles (Goal: 1,000 Miles)

Had planned a longer ride today but didn't get to bed until very late, then got delayed leaving, so figured the long ride wasn't going to happen. So instead I took in a shorter ride, one that gives me all sorts of loops and options to extend or shorten it based on time available. In the end I cut it a little shorter than originally planned so I could meet my wife as she finished work. Maybe later in the week I'll do the fuller version of it and see how many miles and hills that one racks up.

35.14 miles today. 8th straight day of 30+ miles per day. Going to see how many days straight I can do this. Also today i have made my goal of 500 miles for the month.
I am not sure that this is meaningful thing considering I am retired and have the time to ride everyday. Unlike those who work and still get their mileage in.
WTD 105.6 miles
MTD 502.14 miles
YTD 2,101.97 +( 2,000) miles.

Ended up taking yesterday off as a recovery day. This morning I got out there and put in a decent 36.4km while keeping myself in zone 3. Still new to this whole zones thing, but I am appreciating mixing things up with tempo rides and interval rides. Probably going to add hill repeats at some point since I really need to work on my climbing.
