Lose It!
Okay, so a little off topic in the bike part, but certainly on topic in the Clydesdale part.
I recently started using a free app called Lose It!. You can download to Android or iPhone, or just use it on your PC, but I think the latter is least effective. Anyway, it's been out a while, and I am late to the party, but this thing has helped me quite a bit in my attempt to be a little less Clyde. In under 2 months I am down 12 lbs, and unlike every other time I have tried to knock off a few, this time has actually been fun!
Think of it as FaceBook with a calorie logger and foods database. And it is also FREE if you are on a budget, or you can pay up for some added options which i personally have no need for yet.
Anyway, just passing this along because I really love this app and the success I have had with it.

Hmmm . . . This looks like something I might actually find rather easy to use!

Lose It is a great app, very easy to track foods and watch calories. Also, if you are a social type, there is a supportive community. I had some really good success losing weight with it. I did stop using it when my wife had our son, but I am getting ready to use it again as a compliment to my riding.

I went from 265 to 224 in 6 months with LoseIt! and stopped 'counting' calories 8 months ago. I fluctuated up to 228 but am back down to 224.The first month sucked, but it was easy after that. For me, diet/calories were 95% of my issues. Life is a lot easier being 'thin.'

I lost 50lbs using LoseIt! Just be aware that its estimate of how many calories you burn when bicycling are way too high! My lunch ride is typically 50 minutes @ 16.5mph average. LoseIt! says that's a 760-calorie burn, while my power meter says 500 calories. Off by 50%! If I drop LoseIt! from the 16-19mph speed range down to the 14-15.9mph range its estimate is still 25% too high.

I have been using myfitnesspal app and I agree that it works. I guess when you how much calories is what you are eating it allows you make better decisions.

I too have been using MyFitnessPal, which sounds similar to LoseIt. Sstorkel's right that such apps/sites tend to overestimate calories burned in exercise. My short Thursday ride burned about 600 calories, according to my Edge 800; MyFitnessPal estimated nearly 1000! Needless to say I used the Edge's estimate.

LI! Tends to give you too few calories to eat based upon BMR (in my personal case), but overall, if you do not eat back your exercise cals and stay at their calculated cals number, it all works out pretty well.

Basic accountability on caloric intake, with the joy of logging a workout to 'debit' some (or all) of those calories away.
Its a good app, with a barcode scanner to input packaged food easily. You can add any food you can think of to your log and add custom exercises or choose from the long list.
It only works if you use it though. You have to have commitment.

I use Myfitnesspal, and I do agree that the calories burned do seem high. I rode the other night for 50 mins at 13.9 avg and MFP said 1100 calories. Anyway so far I'm down 13 pounds in 3 weeks.
