Budget $300 - which indoor trainer should i buy?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Budget $300 - which indoor trainer should i buy?

Hi Guys.

I'm in need for some expert help.

It's very cold outside and I've heard you can buy an Indoor cycling trainer.

I looked at Amazon - the kinetic indoor trainer

But I don't know if this is good enough?

I want a solid indoor trainer, and the noise shouldn't be overwhelming.

I do prefer to shop on amazon - got some credit in the store.

What do you guys think? $300 budget. My expectations is quality, easy to attach the bike, not too much noise.

Thanks in advance

Best regards
Jeff D.

I have a Kinetic. It's a very good basic trainer. Their customer service is excellent.

I would avoid letting a witch inside since they may cast an evil spell on you. As per your trainer question: the one you linked is the go to trainer. From what I understand fluid trainers are the quietest. I personally have a magnetic trainer and when I am riding in the bedroom, with some mats below it, my family tells me they can barely hear it with the door closed and my neighbors haven't complained (although I do ride at decent times). The one I purchased was "used" from craigslist and dirt cheap.

I also have that Kurt and agree with Barrett. They are generally considered to be the best fluid trainer. Fluid more total resistance and better road feel than magnetic and wind models. Short of going to a much more expensive electronic trainer like a Computrainer or Wahoo kickr, the Kurt is probably what you want.

I have that exact trainer. It's not "quiet", exactly, but it's as quiet as any trainer, and the noise is not unpleasant. There's not a better trainer you'll find. Go for it.

You can buy the best trainer they make on Ebay for $289 with free shipping and no tax - Kurt Kinetic Road Machine. Look up the Kurt Kinetic's magnetic coupling mechanism and you will see why they will never leak.

Is there a reason you don't recommend the one in his link, which is a Kurt Kinetic Road Machine for $289 with free shipping, and no tax (depending on location), except from Amazon?

Depending on location, Amazon may or may not charge sales tax. That's all I can think of.

I have a Road Machine and like it quite a bit.

I have the rock and roll model. I bought one of the heavy duty commercial mats and placed underneath it. Granted, I live in a house, but the noise is minimal. I usually have music playing anyway.

According to my wife, my screams of pain during the intervals is much louder than the machine

The one you link OP has pretty much been the gold standard of trainers.

There are small improvements with 2.0, but it's the same resistance unit.

I have the KKRM as everyone mentions and like it.
I think the trainer is quiet but my bald Michelin tires and chain are what make a decent amount of noise.
Can't fault the trainer for that.

Also Kurt Kinetic here.

Better jump on that; mine was $329 from Amazon when I bought it.

Just bought a use magnetic today for $50. It works pretty good so i can only imagine how nice a $300 one would work.

I have a Cycleops Fluid 2 as well. When I had a problem Cycleops/Saris took care of it even though I've had it for 4 years now.

For the guys who have the Kurt fluid trainers, is there any advantage to the add-on "pro" flywheel IRL?

Dont get too excited...
The joy of a new trainer fades quickly, riding outdoors is so much more enjoyable.
Trainer sessions get old/boring faster than your 1st interval.
Find options to keep things interesting on the trainer.

I like to watch training videos. I've been using a few I've found on youtube (I would link but at work and it's blocked) that keep me on for 30-60 minutes. I plan to buy some sufferfest videos in the near future as well. It helps to be doing a routine since when your body and mind start telling you to stop the video will end the interval and you'll think, "well I'll just get through this recovery section" then the next interval starts and you think, "well I'll just get through this interval" and the next thing you know you're done!

Kurt Kinetic Road Machine or CycleOps Fluid 2 are perfect - in fact, I have one of each.

Don't go cheaper than that. Riding the trainer isn't fun. Riding a ****ty trainer is even worse.

I just bought a cycleops wind. not nearly as noisy as it is made out to be, got it from ebay for $100. trainer doesn't have to be expensive or fancy, just has to work. I see no need to get one of these $500+ deals like a rock-n-roll or a cycleops powerbeam. if the fluid works for you, get it. the important thing isn't really whether or not you have a great trainer, its just important that you use what you have.

A trainer is an anomaly in the space-time continuum. When you enter the space of the trainer, all time slows down and as you near the finishing point time stops passing altogether. Sufferlandria is a black hole and Coach Troy is an alien.
