Training Status
Training Status is a very popular thread in the Road Racing forum. I figure that we could have some similar chatter here.
This is a casual thread where we can drop in and mention our daily training, updates, goals met, setbacks, etc...
It's sometimes nice to feel camaraderie with someone else dealing with the same crap and also not getting paid for it

Weight Loss: eh...so so. Not gaining weight, so I got that going for me.
Road Riding: Is it bad that I log more miles/week walking than riding?
Weight Lifting: Blasted through my previous PRs in my core lift by +30% and still progressing. Lifting tonight. I'm close to a reset. Not sure if I should press on go ahead and reset now before failing the lift.
Mentally: Cautiously excited about the upcoming season.

Weight gain: aw, holding steady. Trying to get up into "featherweight" territory, hopefully via weight gain in the power-producing regions.
Weight lifting: Continuous improvement! I'm up to squatting 1.5x my bodyweight.
Quad circumference: just measured a baseline earlier this week. Will report back soon.
Roller/trainer workouts: very much aided by a teammate coming over 3x/week to lift and ride with me. More focused and regular working out through the winter should do me well by spring - it's easier to hurt when you're telling somebody else that they have to, too.
Road riding: basically impossible.
Spiders in the basement: lots.
Attitude about winter: frozen tears.

Weight Loss: down from 205lbs at thanksgiving to 190+/-, need to drop the last 2'ish LB's in the next few weeks (need to be closer to weight class for powerlifting)
Weight Lifting- Still as strong as i was at 200lbs.. slow gains and no backslides is the goal..
training:
My training doesn't really vary that much during the year.. maybe more longer efforts now- more shorter in season.. but to most people my training would seem the same..
what a week looks like:
Mon- Gym (texas method- 5x5@ 90% of my 1x5max/deads) followed by 45min rollers
tue- 2hr Ergo interval session
Wed- Gym (2x5@75%) 45min Ergo
Thurs- 2hr Ergo interval session
Fri- Gym (TX 1x5max/power cleans) 45min rollers
Sat- 2.5 road ride- this one is a fast one!
adds up to about 8hrs of saddle time a week.. closer to season i try to get to the track instead of the thursday ergo- and closer to competition i might drop the group ride for saturday track..
i thrive on Volume and Repetition...

For those who don't know, I'll put it into perspective: I used to train with a 22 year old Elite Female Sprinter as a training partner. She was national-level and trained with the US National team once at a Sprint Camp with Jamie Staff.
She did one of Steve's trainer workouts that was assigned to me...and promptly puked.

in theory these workouts should be equally as hard for me as they would be for anyone (perceived).. Since the basis of the training is the completion of all the reps, and all the sets- there has to be some amount of pacing.
in the words of my coach:
"dont blame me! you're the one who decided how hard hard is"

I am currently clue less as to what I am doing training wise.
This will be my first season.
Currently doing 5x5 Stronglifts, A few turbo sessions a week and get out for an easy road ride when I can. When I get my track bike next week I aim to get to the velodrome as much as possible before the outdoor training sessions start. I work 12hr shifts which are very tiring and my wife works my days off which means I have the kids so my time is very limited!
BUT - being a complete novice I should see some big gains this year

Racing - track Tuesday nights and Saturday afternoons. 3 races per meet - usually start with a scratch then two others which can be basically anything such as Kierin, motorpace, points, eliminations, team pursuits...
Training - Thursday intervals on the road bike - anything from 4 min pursuit efforts to 10 min around FTP. Other days recovery rides Z2 and below ~2 hours each day (commute 1 hour each way on my fixed gear conversion running 42*16)
Weight - looking forward to the end of track season so I can start running again in prep for a winter of CX and loose some weight gained over the last couple of months!

Weight - At my summer weight in the winter(165), so I take it that it's progress?
Training - Just doing lifting 3x a week with some roller work to keep the fat off, first time ever working out in my life.

I weighed 178 in June of last year. I never struggled with weight. (You can start hating me now.) I realized I was about ten pounds overweight, so for my first time, I decided to do something about it. I cut back on sweets. Got down to 170. Now I'm back up to 175, so I need to get a little stricter now, but I'm lucky I'm close to my ideal weight. I wonder if I'll feel faster when I get down to 168.
No training regimen yet. I hope to ride every day, all outdoors, despite the weather. I can't stand pedaling indoors.
Gotta start lifting weights and doing push-ups and sit-ups. I've never done exercise regularly. I just ride for fun and errands.

First time lifting weights means this has been a very odd off-season for me. By far the fewest hours saddle time of any stretch since I started cycling -- which is particularly disconcerting given that this is typically big-mile base building season. I have been hitting the track only once/week at most, but will start adding some more specificity soon.

Still trying to lose weight (ride road as well as track) so lifts in gym have faltered. All very low but form is better than last year. This was to be my last week lifting as road racing starts here in two weeks. Have a meeting this morning which means gym is out. I may just stop going now and concentrate on more road miles. Main goal is a better pursuit time this year, in August, so weights don't play as much a role as for some of you guys. Only really started training on bike this month so happy with things as they are. I like a winter of swimming, running and weights.

Day 3 if the TrainerRoad/Sufferfest Tour of Sufferlandria. Legs already battered from the first two days and today's workout is my nemesis - 1 min on (150% FTP) 1 min off...

Last week:
- PB in my core lift (130% of my previous PB)
- Starts on my ergo were 92% of my ergo PB (not bad for January)
This week:
- I did starts this weekend an was down to 87% of my PB.
- I struggled through warmup of my first lift. Didn't complete the 3rd working set. Shut it down and went home.
- Woke up really tired and late for work. Feeling inappropriately achy.
I suspect that I'm fighting off some sort of cold or something.

Or possibly tired from that BIG PB last week?
I'm about half way through the tour of sufferlandria on the turbo. Lifted today too, except I'm building weight up slowly, only at 42.5kg on the squats so far but still feeling easy.

Last night:
Couldn't ride, couldn't lift.
Just felt too exhausted to do much.
Fatigue catching up to me? My lingering cold? Or because I barely ate all day long?
I think I know the answer, but being so unable to work out really dented my brain.

I've been in ketosis steadily for around weeks leading up to last night when I felt pooped.
Do you think I need regular carb refuels?

Finally ****ing broke 200rpm on the rollers. I can hit 220+ on the road, so it's mainly a confidence thing I think. Hit 203 and 208 during some 10s sprints today. About effing time.
