Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Preventing helmet head

What works best for you?

I've heard that shortening your hair is a good way to go, but that's not a practical option for me. Is there a shampoo or something that would help?

Don't wear a helmet seems like the simplest solution.

They aren't needed anyway.

I get bad helmet head when hair is between 1/4" and 2" long.

At 2" and above if I put Groom & Clean in my hair, helmet head is greatly reduced, and even totally eliminated if I squirt some water from my water bottle into my hand and then run it through my hair.

Seems to me helmet hair is like the tan lines. It should be cultivated and against The Rules to take preventative steps against.

My long hair just forms into ridges on top of my head which correspond to the vents in my helmet

I learned to live with it.

Helmet head is a badge to be worn proudly. It means that you are a real cyclist.

Do not worry that women think you look like a complete idiot.

Sincerely-

Guys who think cycling tan lines are cool.

I braid my hair. But I'm a girl and all that.

When you take your helmet off, put on a ballcap. Tada!

Shave. All bodily hair is superfulous and creates drag. That includes eyebrows. Especially eyebrows.
