Today was my first commute from the new apartment. Pouring rain, so I didn't ride. My CTA commute time has dropped from about 1:10 each way to 35 minutes. Pretty happy about that.

Pretty excited about the new place. It's pretty.

Got the bike room mostly set up yesterday. Gonna get some of those gravity bike stands.

Oh, and when it's not all ****ty and rainy, this is the view from my front porch. It's even better from the rooftop.

Today was my first bike commute from the new apartment. 5 miles seems so short compared to my old 10 mile commute. Doesn't even feel like exercise! And bike lanes the whole way; what a luxury.

It sounds like for your lifestyle this was a perfect move. Is there someplace nearby to take your dog ?

Oh you know, just a 219-acre park one block away. (Alas, I haven't found a fenced dog park, but he prefers walks to running around anyway; he's getting old and jumpy hyper dogs annoy him.)

I had a zip wallet from TopMan that had card holders on the outside. It was my favorite wallet for a few years until the zipper broke. I'm hoping this tightwallet can live up to that one.

I've been away for a bit. We've decided that we're selling our house in the burbs and getting a house/condo/loft/something or other downtown. Unfortunately, downtown PHX isn't that happening, so it'll probably just be somewhere near central PHX where all the good food places are. I've been on zillow nonstop for the last 5 days. Tonight we meet with our realtor. Woohoo! Goodbye old people and kids, hello night life and bike rides as my main form of transportation.

Welcome to a downtown existence. I moved to be more central about 8 years ago and have never looked back fondly to the 'burbs.

I have the best location IMO. I'm only about a 10 minute drive from downtown, but I'm still only a 1 mile ride from low traffic country roads.

That does sound nice. Throughout the off season I generally have an entire network of cycling/mixed use paths to myself but now that it's warming up, it can be more congested than the roads.

I'm quite geeked. It's a 35-40 minute drive to downtown from our current house. We have a fair amount of restaurants and things to do near us, but downtown you can try a new place every night. Also, I miss going to shows during the week.

Plus, the idea of downsizing is somewhat soul cleansing.
