Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Yep. On page 7. And it was in 2007.

It was a turning point for this thread.

Maybe it's just that I've raced around enough squirrels now to really appreciate it, but I now agree there are SOME times when you just have to let someone have it when they're doing something stupid/dangerous. I've also had some very good experiences with the experienced 4's and 3's on my team and appreciate their patience and guidance in helping me get better. Hell, ES and Smoothie have been full of sound advice and encouragement that guided me through my first season of racing.

So I guess you do have to yell sometimes, but the vast majority of the time getting dropped by a really fast group is sufficient "punishment" to fix a behavior. I guess I just hadn't seen enough of the actual dangerous stuff to really get it.

And thanks again to Smoothie, ES, and the other elitists.

I thought of this thread the other day when I pulled a bone-head move in line. The leader had flicked his elbow and I didn't see it because I was on the wrong side, (plus I'm old and blind), so when he backed off I tapped the brake a bit more than I should have. This drew jeers and comments from those behind me, but no yelling.
I felt like a proper dufus, they knew it, so yelling would have been redundant.

Maybe from your perspective. But since yelling can be cathartic, it's quite possible that the other cyclists continued to harbor bottled up anger and aggression against you.

Australia? Shouldn't that be "1 m clearance"? Or thereabout?

Is using the wrong units a yelling offense?

While riding on the MUP the other day I wanted to yell at someone who was trying to transform a path full of kids and walkers with strollers into his personal TT course.

But I didn't. He might have yelled back and then my feelings would have gotten hurt.

That would have been some metric yelling right there. Some good imperial yelling would obviously get more attention...

Gosh, I just learned this weekend that 1" is plenty. If you are not in the all dressed alike go fast pace line you really shouldn't even be on the road. Perhaps allowed to ride on in the dirt beside the road. Maybe. So I burned my bike. I have no reason to live.

You sound like a very disturbed individual. Perhaps as a child you were yelled at too much.

Why did he back off before you'd started to come through? Why did he flick the elbow on your blind side? I think your friend needed to get yelled at more than you, tbh.

Maybe I'll yell at him retroactively this weekend. I did, however, over react with the brake.
