"So" starts a sentence, and "then" ends the sentence. Insert inquisitive yet somewhat obvious speculation between. Just don't face anyone directly when talking. That's basic conversational construct in my neck of the woods.

Here's a workaround:
Use Google and add "site:bikeforums.net" to your query so that it'll only return results for this site. For example, if you Google chain lube site:bikeforums.net, you'll probably find thousands of everyone's favorite chain lube threads, and only from bikeforums.net.

The phrase "fast bike" - without rider, a bike will actually just sits there. Unless of course you are telling a story about how your threw your bike off a cliff, then it is fast.
The word "stable" when used in conjunction with bikes - its a bike people, not a horse.
The word "herd" when used in conjunction with bikes - its a bike people, not a cow.
And finally, it is beyond me people will post about things they think suck or don't like. There are many threads about stuff I don't like. And while I waste a great deal of time on bf, I wouldn't waste even more time to go into a thread about stuff I don't like, read all the posts about stuff I don't like and then compose a response about how I don't like it. What's the point?

@rootboy I think one guy misplaced a part. Maybe it fell behind his tool box or on the floor and kicked under the workbench, doesn't matter. He then let people know he needed a replacement. Someone said, "Hey, I can make money on that!" Soon the 100th monkey started selling the parts out of his stash of complete components because he could make more money charging $25 for the aero plates for a Chorus/record lever and then sell the lever without them for $75 and then sell the damn hoods for another $35! This when the rare complet set would have sold for $65.
Soon there was a whole market for exorbitantly priced parts people were willing to pay because that guy was too lazy to look for his part under the bench. He has since moved and the part was swept up into the trash when the workspace was cleaned for the new occupant.
AND.... the parts are readily available on ebay! Not like there really is a shortage. Sherriff Stars, maybe.

Niggling complaints, but it's a peeve when someone uses people (singular) to refer to persons, its instead of it's, their instead of they're, etc. I understand that language is fluid and it changes, but it's never changed so quickly. These are definitely peeves, though, and I seldom bring them up with anyone other than my boys. Not worth a rant.
I suppose my biggest BF peeve would be a five page thread in which only four or five posters answer the OP's actual question while the rest pontificate.

Of the above three, I'm guilty of two for sure. The one about which I'm definitely not guilty is using fast bike. To use the word fast in relation to anything I do is simply being untruthful. I typically use the term deliberate in referring to my usual rate of progress.

We need to come up with a specific term for a group of bikes. You know, a collective noun, like;
A murder of crows
A congress of baboons
An exaltation of Larks
A parliament of owls
Etc.

I use fast bike as a compliment to someone that has obviously put work into a "racing" bike. It's not my area of interest- but I feel it shows an appreciation for a nice looking bike.

Despite the objections voiced above, I think 'stable' is a good term. It conveys the way they are stored, all together, and implies that they are all (mostly) ready to ride at any given time but that you cannot ride them all at once. 'Fleet' implies they all ride together, which is not realistic. Collection is too bland. Hoard is too realistic.

A "Tour" or "Peleton" of bikes. Kind'a weak or not very original. How about sticking with the sub theme, "Senate" for keepers and "House" for flippers?

My, so many of us are so peeved!
These don't rise to the level of pet peeves by any means, but a couple of minor affectations that I think are best avoided are:
1. Referring to bike parts as "bits." Okay if you're actually British. A little bit silly if you're not British but are referring to parts for a British bike. Completely absurd if you're non-British and referring to parts for a non-British bike.
2. Referring to a bike as "she," however old and cherished it may be. C'mon, it's just a bicycle. Also kind of sexist, I think.

Yep, if someone says, "I need to loose weight," I imagine them pooping their britches. I have no idea why. Anyway, I gotta go my cassette keeps braking, so I'm gonna put a new freewheel on my tire. That'll help me when I go up hills in high gear. Peace.
