Another good, solid 25.5 mile afternoon ride, beautiful day but a bit of gusty wind from the ESE. I needed to shake off the blues from our unsuccessful bid today, just a small weight room and locker facilities for the county, but we need some work, badly.

A couple days ago The Washington State Dept. of Transportation announced that they were opening up the North Cascades HWY to motor vehicles on thursday(today). There is a 40 miles section of that highway that is closed during the winter months due to heavy snow/avalanche conditions. The DOT spends about six weeks clearing the snow there every spring before they open it up. During that time folks can ride there bikes on the closed section as far as the crews have cleared.

Yesterday I was fortunate enough to get out and ride it while it was still closed to cars. Northbend has been up and over this road a few times and posted pictures here. It was my first time and it really is an awesome ride. I started out in little town/community of Newhalem, and from there it's a 14 mile climb to the gate.

I ran into these three guys at the gate, and rode with em for a few miles.

The first of two passes is Rainy Pass at about 4800 feet.

I had lunch there and encountered another rider who I rode with for a few miles

This was my turnaround point

^Beeeyoutiful!

Did 50 miles on the bike path yesterday. It was an out and back. I kept thinking it was time to turn around and go home, but I kept going and going... the weather was too supremely perfect to stop. 80, low humidity, low wind.

Please sir, I want some more.

Another 35 windy miles. Almost a repeat of yesterday except today's winds were crosswinds vs yesterday's headwinds.

Did my commute today, rode the UO8 because it has lights and the weather was threatening showers. The old workhorse did just fine. A slightly longer route made it about 32 miles.

Did not ride this afternoon, started raining while I was dressing for a ride, supposed to be a high flood danger here, after everything last week its risky because it saturated and the creeks, streams, rivers and ponds/lakes are high still. I frankly needed a day off, been around 40 days since I had a rest.

30 miles for first ride since GASP century last Saturday. Starting to feel like a 50 YO bike rider again. Less stopping, more time in big ring and higher speeds. Changes since coming off BP med have been fantastic.

Rode a 100K (65 mi) organized ride today, the I Care Classic. Relatively easy 100K with only 2400' of climbing, but there was a pretty good wind. I did better than expected coming off a 3 week layoff while waiting for my new frame to come in. Assembly using my old parts (by my LBS) was flawless; love the in-frame cables.

Rode 25.5 miles this afternoon, the rains went to the northwest of our area so there was no additional flooding, thankfully.

78 miles with 6800 ft of climbing. I could tell that I'd done a time trial Wednesday night.

The wife and I did 15 miles together today. That's the longest ride for both of us since starting riding this year. It feels great to be out together riding and enjoying a beautiful day together.
I hope someday we can do a century ride together.

For now 15% of a century feels like a big win for both of us!

Winds today were brutal. Constant head and crosswinds for the entire 44 mile ride. Great ride!

I did the Capital to Capital ride, that goes from Williamsburg to Richmond and back (or vice versa if you prefer.) Nice flat ride, so I pushed the pace more than I usually do. I ended up with a PR time of 5 hrs, 20 mins for the 100.3 miles. About half of that was riding in a pack, and half was solo.

25 miles yesterday and 35 today on the GNV-Hawthorne trail. Nice rides ans no pain.

I injured my back (compressed t5 vertebrae) 30 years ago and it has been acting up recently more sothannusual, so I've dexided to take it slow for a bit. I don't think biking is bad for it, but I don't want to make it worse......

68 miles with 4000 ft of climbing at a very comfortable pace. Great day to ride in the Carolinas but you could tell that seasonal humidity is coming quickly.

^ After jppe's post above, makes my ride to the local Starbucks seem a little like an underachievement. Approx 0.75 miles and 5 feet elevation gain.
