Yeah I did the Friday twilight crit too, it was like a practice race track or something for police/firefighters since the whole thing was on sort of training compound/college, banked corners almost like a velodrome and super windy. It was pretty fun, but there was a nasty crash in the last lap though and a guy got ambulanced out

RATL-WAS Labs cycling photographer person...

I'm the slow poke in grey. Our field caught the break in the sprint (far right netherland rubber guy, and the orange guy who won). As you can see, i was trying to come around the guy in front of me, and instead just got wrecked in the sprint.

From Golden State Circuit Race, photos by Jim Elder.

Off the front from the ***:

Some "help" coming up. It only lasted 10 minutes or so.

No pain here, just thought this one was funny with me looking around for someone else to chase that guy.

And from the earlier race. Just as I caught the break. w/ mattm

Your help was a couple of Jrs. They're both pretty strong, but need to be instructed in a break The kid in the yellow helmet is strong and coming around. I sat on his wheel during a group ride last week and just yelled at him (he's a teammate) to go faster and that I wasn't pulling through (just the two of us off the front) and that'd he'd better keep the pace. He kept it around 32 for 2+ miles. I was impressed and didn't work at all He also tried to lead me out last weekend and started to drop me

ok I'll admit the previous pictures I posted were lame, but this one looks suffery.

Larry Bernstein from Team Vitesse took it.

Looks good! There's a good sense of motion in the shot, too. It's a pet peeve of mine when photographers use a super high shutter rate esp for time trials as it makes everything appear slow. Looks like a max effort here.

In your race report you said you slingshotted off a rival (presumably the guy right behind you) who was bridging. Did the three other guys a few seconds back make it to the break? Just curious.

The guy I jumped off is at the front of the pack in the rear. The only person to make it to the break (and past it with me) is the guy with his head down, white shirt with red bands on the sleeves. He won it.

Cool. Bear Creek is a fun race (unlike the "you're gonna die" arrangement of the Houston GC the same weekend). Bear Creek is actually where I last raced with Lawson Craddock, when he was a 3 (at like age 15?)

Leading the way with an immensely talented Cat 5 pool in Portland!

I wasn't suffering but this is the first decent race photo I got. The photographers in SoCal only shoot the p12 races and then wonder why no one buys their stuff...

Wait was the first picture of when you took off on final lap? For the life of me I don't remember that there was the guy on your wheel, or how I passed him. Last corner couple corners I was second wheel.

I think that was earlier and not the final lap.

it's cool to race those guys just passing through. i recently got to "race" a junior (i put it in quotes as we weren't even doing the same sport) who has a strong chance of getting to the highest levels. fun to be crushed by those guys.

Good racing saturday! Nice to meet you after the race hack!

Not quite enough of a gap to get away... But got caught with 1.5 to go

Good to meet you as well.. Your effort had me a bit worried there near the end as you got a good 5 second gap and the group wasn't pulling you back. I think if you had gone with 2.5 laps to go you'd have stayed away. There wasn't a surge or sense of urgency until about 1 to go.

Yeah I should have waited for 3 to go, and moved further up the field. I had gone from about 15-20th wheel, which I know better than to do. I should have waited a lap gotten up near 8th wheel, and then gone for it. But then I was worried if I had gone with 3 to go, then people would have chased me down. But that's racing, next time!
