Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Powertap upgrade - wired to wireless

Trying to get some advice on whether this will be worth the money. I can have my old (early-mid 2000's) powertap wheel upgraded to ANT+ for $350 (G3 internals). The wheel is still good, bontrager x-lite, but not sure if I should upgrade a 10 year old wheel. Anyone do this, and was it worth it for you?

Kinda depends on how much the wires bug you.

Also, you'll need a new ant+ head unit. Is that in the $350 budget?

Given that you can get a new G3 hub for $700, with warranty, I'd not put the money in the old one. Ride it till it breaks and then buy a new power meter.

I f you send the wheel to Saris to do the swap, they will warranty the new G3 as new. The internals are far better than the old ones and far more resistant to water intrusion. HOwever, since you've had your for 10 years and water has not being an issue and neither has been having wires, I see the entire thing as a waste of money for no gain really. In the end, I agree with the above: "Ride it till it breaks and then buy a new power meter."
