Gloating (sorry)

I am pretty proud of myself today. I started riding in Jan after a 25 yr hiatus. First ride was 1.5 miles and I was spent.
Since Jan I have been riding as often as I can and trying to improve distance. Well today is my longest to date. 51.5 miles. I am spent but satisfied.
Last 15 were slower than my usual pace but I made it!!

Agreed. Not gloating in the slightest. Great job. Just wait until you do your first metric century, then your first imperial century! And your story will inspire others who just rode their first 1.5 miles today...and are spent!!!

Thanks guys. I do hope to work up to a metric then imperial century. Looking at drop bar bikes for a "by spring" purchase. The sirrus will be the winter bike

For someone who just bought a bike yesterday and rode for the first time in 10 years this is very cool. Congrats on your milestone.

You are almost at the "metric" century (62.1 miles).

I hate the be a stickler here but seeing that I live outside the USA I must cite Rule #24 here.

Wow. Bought a bike yesterday and already quoting the "rules". You'll fit in just fine!

That's not gloating; that's sharing a success story. Way to go! Come back and gloat some more after your first metric.

Well the next step after citing rules, is to shave your legs...you get 30 more watts with shaven legs....

That's great. I think I started ridding a few months ago and was in the same boat. I think my max was about 2 miles, but the last mile was probably going 5mph lol. My longest ride to date is just under 30, but i'm riding hard and hoping to get to 50 miles in a few months. What was your pace setting like? I can ride hard and fast for an hour and on a flat average around 18-20mph, but after that hour is over I'm dead and end up crawling. I'm still trying to find "my pace" so I can ride fast and far without running out of steam half way through the ride.

Excellent ride, congratulations! When you're ready to tackle the metric, you'll find it much easier than the 50 - or at least I did. I'm only hoping my first imperial is just as easy next summer.

All you really need to know is the five and dime or V and VV.

I often feel that coming here and being happy about my insignificant milestone is gloating, but when it comes to your personal best it is important. Celebrate your achievements, there are a lot of cheerleaders here. Congrats, I hope I can reach that distance myself some day.

Pace averaged 15.5 under my usual a bit but last 12 I was probably at 12. This on a sirrus sport with 700x32 tracer (light knobby) that I run for winter

2 hours in snow flurries yesterday count? The Garmin is still on the bike so no upload yet.
I did upload a ride I did in Flagstaff up to the Arizona Ski Bowl. After 4 weeks off the bike that was an eye opener... 12.6 miles of up an avg 3% grade (2,247' gain) CAT1. Steepest bits I saw were in the 15% range ending at an elevation of ~9,200'.

That's a pretty good pace. I think my pace is about the same, but my endurance needs some work.
